so i started a bike shop. update 31/07/24

more, so with moving all that stuff upstairs some of the other stuff had to come downstairs. tyres now by the front door and when the main door is open in the summer they will sort of act as a barrier to using the big shutter as an entry point, i'll be putting grid wall in to stop people trying...

so i started a bike shop. update 31/07/24

ok so time for another little update, obvs ever since i moved in to the new place i was trying to decide how to lay things out, i decided i wanted as many of the bikes upstairs as possible, bikes for sale, repaired bikes and any of my stuff. so i wanted to get the upstairs looking good, so i got...

1989 (i think) Muddy Fox Seeker! the prodigal bike returns!

ok, so a bit of movement, i stripped the bike down to the frame, sent that off for paint, original. started assessing the parts, the chainset didn't look quite right, it had silver rings, they look perfectly fine but i remember them being black, next thing i know i was on ebay, i found a more...

For Sale 1989 Araya RX-7 36hole rims sold as pair only. £25 posted

so i have stripped down a muddy fox bike, i wanted to use the hubs but not the rims, i know these are very original but i wanted to use a mavic rim so these are for sale. i stripped the wheels down sensibly by loosening the spokes first before cutting them, the wheels were previously straight...

so old MTB frame to gravel bikes? thoughts? update on 30/06/24

yeah the exotic fork, i put in there a few years ago when that bike stopped being my main bike and the suspension fork was on the way out, it's got a bit of flex in it though so it's actually quite a good ride, but yeah noit pretty but i think it looks ok to be honest, the fork i always thought...

so old MTB frame to gravel bikes? thoughts? update on 30/06/24

ok, so as it's my day off i decided to go to the shop and start messing about, got the tape measure out against my rocky mountain solo and my old clockwork, reach wise once the correct stem is fitted i think it'll be fine that way. obvs the frame is disc specific and it has a rigid carbon disc...

so old MTB frame to gravel bikes? thoughts? update on 30/06/24

ok so like many of you i have a fleet of bikes, i love having my retro stuff but to be honest i don't ride them much, i keep a few at the shop as talking points and that will expand with what i'm doing in the shop over the next couple of months. but anyway i started seeing stuff on instagram etc...

1989 (i think) Muddy Fox Seeker! the prodigal bike returns!

@27motorhead yeah i'm so glad i got one. the Keith story, when i turned up to get that bike i paid him the money and he pointed out all the things wrong with it, i think he wanted to then charge me to sort the problems as he was selling it on behalf of someone else, i kept saying "yeah that's...

1989 (i think) Muddy Fox Seeker! the prodigal bike returns!

so years ago, i think 1990 i bought my first real mountain bike, a used Muddy Fox Seeker from a dodgy old bastard called Keith who ran the local lawn mower and cycle repair shop, he was awful but that's a long boring story. after getting the bike i knew it needed a bit of work, cables, BB...

State of the industry: a running thread

in regards to Orange, i had the rep in yesterday, in basic terms, they sold the property they had to fund the restructure, essesntially they had assetts but no cash, that combined with the fact that at the time they were currently owed £400,000 in total from bike shops that hadn't paid their...

just hearing via facebook that Pat Adams has passed away

very sad, 24 hour racing in the UK probably wouldn't have happened without him.

    Ergopower adjustment.

the space between each sprocket is less so there is incremental creep on the gears, a 9 speed lever will not work correctly on an 8 speed cassette regardless of whether it is a Miche or campagnolo. to go 9 speed properly you'd have to change the mech, cassette and chain, you'd likely be ok with...

    Ergopower adjustment.

i'd wind the adjusters almost all the way in, this means that you have almost the max adjustment on the cable but also the ability to wind some tension off if you have pulled the cable too tight when you clamp it. but . . . as Pigman says the indexing will never work perfectly, the best thing...

love or hate it, Kona Kila-Honzo update 04/04/24 shiny stuff added!

@clubby yes, i was as disapointed with myself as my sram loving friends were laughing! i think the shimano Di2 would have been fine but i think that shimano should be wireless soon, i'd use that over Sram but while it still has wores i'll avoid it. also i have an AXS dropper on my Stage Evo...
