    Salsa a la Carte 1991

I wasn’t planning to buy another bike when I saw this for sale. But you know how certain bikes have an x-factor and capture your imagination? For me this is one of those, and it all stems from June 1991 with Jason McRoy on the cover of MBUK. Such a great photo – an iconic rider on an exotic...

Catalogue 1990 Suntour Bicycle Components Catalogue

Was 1990 peak Suntour? I love Suntour kit but it seems they peaked in the 80’s and early 90’s Shimano ate their lunch

    1993 Kona Hot

Good work. Great to see it out on the trails. I love the ride characteristics of my 92 Explosif - I bet a Hot is next level.

    Roberts White Spider 1993

I have a Pace option for this build also, but I prefer the black Bontrager forks and XC Pro chainset.

    Roberts White Spider 1993

Thanks! I am trying not to get too precious about it. With a fresh respray and shiny components I almost don't want to hammer it. But I got it to be ridden, so I will embrace the wear & tear !

    Pace Rc100

Nice find. Iconic bike and you can put your own stamp on it. Wow, those bars are seriously narrow.

    Roberts White Spider 1993

Current build status. Going with Suntour XC Pro for the gears & brakes. The XT seatpost is a temporary placeholder. It's nice to build a bike with Suntour for a change. As this is a 1993 frame I will fit the 1993 XC Pro brakes:

    Roberts White Spider 1993

The 1993 Roberts catalogue lists two models of White Spider. I don't know which model mine is, but it does have a fat down tube; diameter is 38mm compared with 32mm for the top tube. Here's a few frame shots. The craftsmanship is impressive.

Brake cable wisdom please - 1.6mm or 2mm?

Yes, they are a bargain. I also use those cables. The larger cable end fits Deore II / DX / XT levers, and the smaller cable end fits Ritchey Logic levers.

Brake cable wisdom please - 1.6mm or 2mm?

The 2mm inner fits in the newer style Shimano straddle (the one with the tube), so I used that.

Brake cable wisdom please - 1.6mm or 2mm?

I found a good solution to this problem, so I am sharing it here in case it's useful for others. I switched from using 1.6mm brake cable to 2mm brake cable because I prefer it, and the cable end fits properly in the brake lever. These are the components I used. Mostly from Venhill UK , who...
