My PEUGEOT Collection - One bike at a time

@Jam_SWorks that really is a lovely collection of bikes 😍 Randomly picked up a Peugeot Black Mamba this weekend. I'm guessing early 90s. Apart from the tires there is nothing to make me think it isn't entirely original. Components are all LX. It is currently looking unloved, but apart from a...

    New fork day

Hi mate, it is the unidirectional carbon model (LINK) - 1" steerer - 26" wheels - 390mm from crown to dropouts - 42mm rake They also do a 425mm and a 445mm length one. Same 42mm rake for all three. It matched the geometry of the original fork almost exactly. Haven't really given it a workout...

    New fork day

I know there isn't a lot of "retro" left on the bike, but there is now even less after the South Downs Way, a very poorly cut steerer tube (previous owner) and a dearth of 1" JIS headsets with zero stack height conspired to wreck my headset / front fork a couple of weekends ago. New forks...

Bit confused by 1998(?) Rockhopper A1 FS bottom bracket

That is a very kind offer, thank you, however the order has already gone in for the Tange one linked above. The remit for this one is just to get it working again after being left out in the rain for 15 years 😀 It never fails to impress me how helpful people are on here.

Bit confused by 1998(?) Rockhopper A1 FS bottom bracket

I've officially downgraded my Google skills from "barely adequate" to "pitiful". Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was trying to find, so much appreciated 👍

Bit confused by 1998(?) Rockhopper A1 FS bottom bracket

Nothing fancy. I was planning to just put the stock cranks back on, which are SBC "Son of Strongarm" triple 42T-32T-22T 175mm. Think they were manufactured by Sugino for Specialized, but can't find out much about them, even on Sheldon. I've found used BB on eBay with the correct dimensions...

Bit confused by 1998(?) Rockhopper A1 FS bottom bracket

I'm sprucing up a Rockhopper A1 FS which I think is 1998ish. Just taken the bottom bracket out and was a bit surprised by the sizing. It is a 73mm shell but only 107mm across the axle ends. I can't see any marking on the BB although a forum Specialized catalogue from 1997 suggests it might be a...

    South Downs Way

There was a race taking place on the Saturday with people doing the entire route in a day. Quite a few went past on gravel bikes with "skinny" tires, maybe 34c? Nutters. They must have been in bits by the time they got to Eastbourne. I cycled for a bit with a guy doing it on a single speed MTB...

    South Downs Way

My one bit of advice would be to go from west to east. The wind would have been brutal going in the opposite direction.

    South Downs Way

Did the South Downs Way over the weekend. Scenery was absolutely stunning. Pics attached, which unfortunately don't do it justice.

Spoke Length for a Retro Rim Mavic

In a perfect world, flush with the bottom of the slot rather than the top of the nipple. In the real world, some will be spot on, some a bit short, some a bit long. That's just the way it is 👍

Help Needed - Dismantling Manitou Spyder R forks

Holy thread resurrection Batman Just taken a 1999 Manitou Spyder R apart @jimwise68 and no apparent knack to it. Used a Bondhus 16468 6mm hex key to get at the bolts and they undid with very little effort. Like you, the insides were in remarkably good condition however the forks could benefit...

    Colour matching touch-up paint

Just wondered if anyone had any helpful tips for sourcing touch-up paint to colour match various old frames. After a lot of initial success with the colours "black" and "white" I'm now struggling. Good example is this Rockhopper in acid green (pre-clean). I've tried buying random "lime green"...

    Cheap bottom bracket thread tool

I haven’t got any experience of that specific tool, but did have a Park Tool version at one time and always assume you get what you pay for with specialist cutting / facing tools. Not sure if this helps but my logic would go as follows… Cost of tool = £120 (or whatever it is) Cost of getting...
