Very confused about riding position(s) - mtb vs road

Oh, I've been playing with the "traditional" methods since I got the bike, about 14 months ago. I need some fine tuning or something that might be obvious to an expert, but not me. The 165mm cranks are certainly not a must. But so far I've only ever ridden 170mm so I have no way to know what...

Very confused about riding position(s) - mtb vs road

I run Marathon 1.5 tires on the Marin. Gatorskin 25mm on the Boardman Things with the Boardman have improved dramatically. I changed nothing on the bike itself, but I change the way I pedal. Riding the Marin I realized how stiff my left foot was, and I surprised myself noticing I had such...

Do ETC freewheels use Shimano standard?

Hi guys, Do ETC freewheels use Shimano standard for splines? I am needing a new (cheap) 14-24 5-speed freewheel and I can only find an ETC but I don't know if I can use the Shimano tool to take it off the hub when I'm done with it. Cheers

For Sale Marin Bobcat Trail 1993 frame

Collection only from SW London (Raynes Park station) Size 18' The frame is straight and threads are all good. The paintjob is not high quality finish, and it would be nice for this frame to find someone who can restore it to its old glory. As per rules, I include a price: £10 But I'm happy to...

Very confused about riding position(s) - mtb vs road

My Boardman is surely not a racing bike, but I am definitely more stretched forward than on the Marin.

Very confused about riding position(s) - mtb vs road

It's not proving easy to compare the two frames. Not with accuracy at least. I will need to make a better effort. Yes, crank length is the same at 170mm. It's probably way to long for me as I am 5'7 with short legs and long torso, but I haven't had the time to switch to 165mm yet. I already...

Very confused about riding position(s) - mtb vs road

Hi guys, This is a sort of rambling/monologue on some thoughts that have been keeping my brain busy this last week. I recently switched back to riding a MTB (1993 Marin Palisades Trail :) ) in the city, for commuting. It wasn't much of a voluntary decision. My main bike broke down and I had to...

Indexing: stand vs on the road (gears jumps when I pedal)

...or the new cassettes that wear out quicker? I've ordered a new cassette, which should arrive in days. Unfortunately I am working late hours these two weeks and I can't pick it up from the shop :(

Indexing: stand vs on the road (gears jumps when I pedal)

Not as easy. I could use the dial on the downtube. But that's not the point, as it doesn't depend on the tension. It just does it no matter what... I could try swapping the chain with another one, but maybe it's wiser to wait for the new cassette first.

Indexing: stand vs on the road (gears jumps when I pedal)

Thanks. My problem is slightly different though. It tends to shift to the next larger cog. I will double check the cable guide, but I think it's fine. I just replaced the cables and cable housings a couple of weeks ago

Indexing: stand vs on the road (gears jumps when I pedal)

Ah! I didn't know that matching a new chain with old cogns would give that problem! The cogs are not terribly old (only 7500km) and look fine to me, but I will take a picture tonight and upload it here. Maybe they are more worn out than they look to me

Indexing: stand vs on the road (gears jumps when I pedal)

Hi guys, I'm having some issues indexing gears on one of my bikes (Shimano Claris 2x8 ). I just istalled a new chain (Shimano) and all is fine on the stand but when I actually try to ride, the chain tries to jump to the inner cog, as if there was excessive tension. What could it be?? The chain...

Problem with Claris shifters - what's going on?

Hi guys, Both shifters on my Boardman bike stopped working withing a couple of days one from the other. As the left shifter was the one not working at all (the right one still sort of does) I turned my attention to it first. My first thought was that the cable housing was rusty and preventing...

Bar end brake levers + bar end shifters??

Hi, Are there bar end brake levers that allow fitting of bar end shifters too? Those I see around fit inside the handlebar, where you would normally fit the bar end shifters, so it's a either or situation. I'm thinking of fitting bullhorn handlebars on my Peugeot, and I would like to move...

A van hit me ... luckily I'm fine

Bruises are good, thanks. Mostly it's the index finger of the left hand that is still sore, but nothing major. I can move it well. I would say I recovered 80% of function already. The right ankle is also a bit sore, but as long as I don't push too much, it doesn't hurt :)

A van hit me ... luckily I'm fine

Damn...the video is indeed bluegh when the bike is moving! The new models with IS should be much better at keeping things smooth... Yes, on the helmet it would be too bulky. Also, I think I move my head around too much for the video to make sense. I don't have a cluttered handlebar so I should...

A van hit me ... luckily I'm fine

Thanks. The video unfortunately is unavailable, not sure why. This is referred to the SJcam?! Not very promising

A van hit me ... luckily I'm fine

Yes, there are quite a few of reviews comparing the two cameras. The GoPro is not better in every aspect, but it is the overall winner. Having said that, the price I quoted in the previous message is not the one of the SJ10 Pro, but the lower end model "action" which I would buy because the...

A van hit me ... luckily I'm fine

Well...I think that's what people who don't want to spend money on a GoPro would say :) The image quality between the SJ10 and the GoPro 8 is quite different. And the microphone is better. And the stabilization is better. Having said that, I didn't know that a SJ10 Pro can be purchased for a...
