    RED (pink?) inner tubes??!

A new one for me - having whipped-off the 'skinny' commuter tyres off the new Merlin I found a pair of red/ pink inner tubes dated 1997 which would fit fatter tyres. They smelt rubbery, seem quite lightweight but I've never come across red inner tubes before! What are they?! There were a...

    Mystery and Unidentified Parts

I don't think I've ever seen a Ti one by Kalloy though...I may be wrong...was hoping someone would be sure-footed with a swift firm 'that is a McMahon/ whatever one'. Fingers crossed still!

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

Yours looks pretty rotten to be fair! I'll put mine in the for sale section soon - see if anyone wants them for an 'authentic' build

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

Love it - fricking super-clean and ice-cool. Purposeful too. There's no way that my frame will get lavished with such parts whilst in my ownership though! I pushed the boat out a bit just buying the thing as it stands right now

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

As the missus was gently snuffling (snoring) I thought it was time to rummage in the shed o'shoite. The magic box of plenty (it really is) gave up this beauty. I'm glad I bought it when Howes of Cambridge shut down in 2013 after 173 years. Great shop, I used it as much as I could afford when...

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

I won't be the one possibly risking my teeth with them as I'll be off into the land of rigid forks. @Once A Hero if you want them we can talk! PM me

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

That would be nice - the good, long 1" ones (especially with roller) are pretty spendy - 'for free' update incoming!

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

Brilliant, thanks for that - the picture of the BB is very useful and a good reference for the future - thanks for re-posting.

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

Here it is - serial 2946. What year do you think?! It's got an RD-6400 Ultegra/ 600 rear 8-spd rear mech and an XC Comp front mech - both of which will probably stay. I think it's not going to be any more 'boutiquey' than it already is - the cranks are swish Toplines. Both rims are M231 in...

When did Pace introduce their chainrings?

Cool thanks - I don't think mine are the extruder style ones so I guess I'll hedge earlier, rather than say '93 or '94. Sorta checking they could well be of the era for a 1991 bike - sounds like they could well be.

When did Pace introduce their chainrings?

I've a set of gold ano' ones on a new acquisition and all the timelines I can seem to find don't mention their chainrings. It'll help build a picture of the evolution of this new steed. Thanks

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

Yarp - what a bit of kit it is! Beautiful welds, I gave it as good a going-over as I could before paying the auction house and I couldn't see any dents or cracks etc. I was going to take photos with my old Canon but the battery needed a charge overnight, so picures soon. 19.5" c-to-c so it's...

Me too! I believe I'm following your thread. I'm fairly certain I won't use the Rock Shox - might you like them/ crown/ stem?

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

Thanks kafer-K - that's really helpful. I could email Merlin as I've read that they are still quite responsive/ interested. It does look fairly large which with my height and inseam might just do it. Ritchey Logic 1" forks with a decent steerer might be a bit unicorn-ish though. Are Mag 20's...

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

I believe Topline - from what I've read they have a propensity to snap and insert themselves into one's shin. I'm 90kg so a wee bit beefy, but I won't be jumping two wheelie bins laid down in the road so I'm hoping 1). they're uncracked etc and 2) they won't be mistreated either

Merlin Titanium - the honest 'Brit' build

I spied this on a regular auction website - listed as 'unknown mountain bike'. It looked titanium to me and having asked some questions their guy said no cracks/ dents, possible remnants of what appeared to be Merlin stickers and a 2*** serial on back of derailleur hanger. The chainstays and...

BB for Topline cranks and Alan Supercarbonio

Just remove it and find out for sure, then weigh it? Topline were American weren't they, so would most likely be JIS? 36x24T (70mm width) is Italian thread. A JIS taper Italian titanium BB is probably out there. Or as above, eat less Jaffa Cakes or have a good dump.
