Yes, that looks a lot like weakening from internal rust. Inspection down the seat tube with a torch should show the extent of damage. I have a phone-mounted endoscope for this stuff. Depending on budget and aesthetics I'd suggest the following in order of cost (low to high, maybe £50-£200ish)...

Here's the Columbus Max main tube spec sheet from 1995 :) You'll see that there are several different options for each tube position, depending on the use etc. They could be mixed up for road, cyclocross, touring, MTB etc. Columbus offered it to builders just as the 'Max' range with that...

I've used 3M Scotchweld DP390 or Permabond ET5422 for that sort of job (dissimilar metals) in the past. Any decent quality structural epoxy should do it. All the best,

I've not fitted mine yet, so can't comment on how well they work. I suspect they came out just as hydraulic discs were dropping on shop floors so just never took off. Decent product, wrong time. Also competing against the re-established and sorted Magura HS brakes. All the best,

Yes, there's plenty of clearance on the inside for plating up, but I'd like to keep it looking as clean as possible on the outside face. Rivets will definitely be a backup Plan B if needed. The hole near the end of the guard is where if fixes to the rack, so there shouldn't be too much loading...

I'm wondering if there's any decent way to repair the rear Bluemels guard. They are the ones with an aluminium core sandwiched inside a plastic surround, like SKS/ESGE 'Chromoplastic' ones. They'll clean up fine, and the bent areas can be eased back, but the crack will need closing up and some...

OK, quick update.🙂 Frame is currently with Lucy at IndiBike to reproduce the decals. Also a spare set and a few sets of Metro Trekker ones for @GrahamJohnWallace. Much of the geartrain was newer replacements, so we're going with period correct Suntour & SR/Sakae to match the Suntour...
