A thousand dollars for a set of shifters!😳

I had the 8 speed model, back in the day. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/196250182766

    1993 GT timberline retro mod.

Small update. I just manufactured some custom made titanium v-brake noodles.😃😎🤠 I'd prefer proper metal ferrules instead of the plastic ones as shown here, but for now this will have to do. The avid ones are brass and I'd prefer aluminium. But the alloy ones I've seen online can be really...

What Retrobike "feature" do you avoid when looking for bikes?

I didn't even realise I was doing this.

Wanted SRAM X9 front derailleur, 3x9, black, 31.8mm, top pull, high clamp.

Preferably new old stock. I'm not interested in X5 or X7 derailleurs as I already have one of those. Really only interested in the 3x9 model not the 3x10 or 2x10 or 2x11 models. I can only find silver. And that won't really go with the bike because practically nothing on it is silver.

    1993 GT timberline retro mod.

Unfortunately this project got stalled. As sometimes happens. Life. Because for one thing I had a 10 speed shifter lying around, and a 10 speed cassette and thought "yeah! let's put that on😃". With all the enthusiasm of a 16 year old teenager. Then eventually figured out that it won't/wouldn't...

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

Another thing I like. Wahoo computer. Garmin Varia radar for onroad use. It's like having eyes in the back of your head!🤓

"Isn't modern bicycle technology absolutely wonderful?"😍

I think some things reach a hill, an optimum point if you will, then further progress is seen as going backward. I'm sure retro car enthusiasts feel this way about manual cars. You're making the assumption that newer is always "better".😁 In any case, I don't care as much as it might appear...

What Retrobike "feature" do you avoid when looking for bikes?

I personally cannot stand cantilever brakes. I think they are an abomination of the 1990s. Every time I see someone post something in pre-97 chat, I think to myself "Well they should have got v-brakes". I even asked AI to come up with a few words about them:

I like modern suspension, I really do!🤩 And disc brakes (on mtbs)!

how about a thread where everybody can talk about all the truly marvelous new tech. Right here. So you censored me again. Because I pointed out that the other thread had been locked. And we can't have that can we? Disagreement? Nobody was name-calling. It was civilised. Part of the reason the...

No there you go you see, it's missing the 11, the 13, the 15, the 17. And from there it only gets worse. No thanks.🥴

State of the industry: a running thread

Nobody is stopping you from starting a "isn't modern technology wonderful!?🤩" type of thread.😉 I used to embrace a lot of new stuff. A lot. Always got the latest number of speeds, bought the top kit in the early 2000's (record), then again more recently. Super record 12 speed levers + RD. But...

State of the industry: a running thread

Err no, the exact opposite is happening / going to happen.🤦‍♂️ Electronic bikes will be MORE expensive, and already ARE more expensive. They're definitely not cheaper! More likely what will happen is that Shimano and SRAM will intentionally program the shifters NOT to work with any other...

State of the industry: a running thread

There's a guy who already has made a 15 speed cassette!!😲🤩 https://www.instagram.com/themonstergravel/ It's really quite ingenious because all he's done is fit a standard width wheel onto a boost frame.😂 And hey presto! There is room for at least three more cogs!🤣 No need for narrower chain...

State of the industry: a running thread

It might well be better, but who can afford to change out their entire fleet every time something new comes along? Nobody. Even if you buy a bike/wheels with these new hubs, all your existing bikes still don't have them. Right? It might be alright upgrading all the time if you only own one...
