To cage, not to cage, where to cage?!

Love this. It's all there. Draw the eye in. No accidents in choice - the cage wonderfully provides a flick of colour to match other flicks of similar colours to tie the bike in together and make it a whole, then the choice of bottle colour really adds to forming bright points of interest with...

To cage, not to cage, where to cage?!

Top post @boy"O"boy - the improved aesthetics of adding (a) bottle cage(s) is not to be taken lightly. 😍 Hard fast rules based on being only practical sometimes fall short...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Crikey Rob - that Hurtu. Compelled to ask a serious question, if you discovered that yourself and had ownership in the state it's in what would would you do? I know myself, if I discovered that myself and had ownership I would freak-out. - A part of me would wish bleach in the eyes. Wish it...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

What a find those scans ! Totally love this one, presumably for the Parisiennes to go pottering around for a dirty weekend away: So if I get this right, the Madame is slightly more stretched out, dipped bars, and thus aero and thus must ride in front and provide a windshield for the more...

Which bike for my first project

While restoration projects can be cool, they can "run away" if you know what I mean. A lot depends on your budget and time, but something like this represents better the price level: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235552322076 Going up and something slightly more modern in better condition can be...

Which bike for my first project

Personally I would stay clear from all of them and hang on for something else or put a wanted ad here. The Pearson looks the most promising in the first round of nice legs, but: - no bottle cage bosses - extensive rust (internal at the BB) - I suspect those canti-lever bosses are for much older...

    Gearing for old legs

The middle which serves to fix the inner too will most like be worn to death. They can be picked up cheap. The only issue is finding a 29, 30, 31, 32 or whatever middle ring without pins and ramps. Can be run with a 107mm JIS BB from memory to get the Q-factor and chain line in the road...

    Gearing for old legs

Like mentioned above, the humble STX-RC FC-MC34 is an interesting crank. Practically a 94 BCD super compact double with updated rings.

To cage, not to cage, where to cage?!

Some of the bottle cages can be right ghastly. Plastic modern ones may be light but think the designs are hideous for retro bikes. Still got one of these in the attic - retro Minoura PET. And one of these. A more modern BBB Fuel Tank XL. All out of fashion now the kids put frame bags...

How does one choose a new steed in these modern times?

Only Ebikes now :p Our not so local LBS stock one or two road bikes, a couple of MTBs, but 80% is electric.

How does one choose a new steed in these modern times?

Daft question, if you have the geometry chart is that enough? Something to compare with what you own? The chances of the stem length, rise and handle bar width being right though is fairly remote IMHO. Not to mention the generic saddle. As for parts they really don't make that much difference...

    My bikes.

:) also done the fantastic trick of removing dynamo's before checking if they worked. At one point had a box of five to get rid off. Tested them with just one bulb, took the rubber tyre grip off, put the spindle in the chuck of an electric drill 😁 I was surprised all of them sold on Ebay. Good...

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

Sure I've seen this before. Left to right, I read "Blocdile" Top OCD then bottom BLIB - something cryptic between manufacture / company name and brand may be going on? Nothing obvious looking here: https://wiki.tontonvelo.com/index.php/Liste_des_marques_A_-_B_-_C :(
