Sorted Good quality 73mm bottom bracket 113-115mm

Thanks - appreciate you checking it out & Syncros is great kit, but I’m being strict on 113-115 spindle.

    Resprayed Raleigh Randonneur 708

More likely Reynolds 708 (spoke holders on left stay) edit just read title properly 🙄

Any out there? Square taper JIS: Shimano XT, XTR (UN72, UN71), white industries, token, TA Axix, Tange (the light version with hollow axle - if indeed they made these in 73mm flavour). Needs to be VGC. Ta!

    Show us your Gravel Bikes

Almost 40 years separate these: time that has given one of them electronic shifting, thru axles, disc brakes, carbon forks and compact geometery. Both frames are beautifully made by skilled people ….. … the one on the left is lighter, quieter and does off road things better (due to the bars)...

9 speed thumbies - best option?

Having similar thoughts here for an upcoming build. I’ve used Microshift 8s and they are v nice and crisp (v light so maybe not the last word in survivability). For the price, taking a punt on the Sunrace then reassessing seems a good way to go. Alternative left field option I will try is...

    Swallow Griffon

Ooo, gorgeous. 😎 Those forks: prestige all round made them very special BITD. A mate had one and I recall how well they handled (we went touring round France and I rember tyrying to keep up on my Team Stumpy as we overtook buses tanking down Alpine passes.)

Might as well be a virgin looking for advice

Nice one - go for it. You’ll get loads of kit opinions, but I’ll jump in with don’t overthink it, especially for canal path riding: light weight ordinary trousers (might get a bit wet, but you get changed at home - if it’s really pissing down you prolly won’t want to be out anyway). If you want...

    Frame failure experiences

I’d agree that it’s surprising how resilient steel frames are: they go eventually, but tend to fail slowly rather than catastrophically, and are hugely repairable. (The only one I broke was a Raleigh Tomahawk in about 1979 - 😆 my mates Dad welded it back together.)

    Today's Ride

Went to the shops for tonight’s meal (baked ziti Carmela Soprano style for the humans, chicken casserole for the hounds - yes fresh chicken is now cheaper than dog food per kg 🤷‍♂️) 11kg shopping, 12 miles, 300m elevation.

What is the maximum tooth sprocket you could fit on the back using a Deore DX rear derailleur?

I’m 80% convinced that this member is a sock puppet account for an established retrobiker who’s become bored/jaundiced with the scene and enjoys a good wind up! 😆 (And before you cry “smelt it dealt it” - I promise it’s not me!)
