Anybody identify this very 'early' SPECIALIZED?

Is it a Zaskar? Got any photos of the end cap? Someone told me Specialized did a limited run of them in the late 90s.

    Hatty's Hardrock

Cheers mate :) Overall a remarkably positive experience all round - I got to build a bike and do lots of tricky stuff, my daughter got to build a bike (and lots of tricky stuff, for her); and then she got to ride it - and the bike has come out quite nicely. Happy bunnies!

Any experts on Fox fork springs please HELP me, going mad

Is it worth having a chat to https://www.tftuned.com/ ? I was searching for springs for some Duke's and had a load of issues trying to find stuff to fit (because they have an odd spring size). While I was trying lots of people recommended TF Tuned, so might be worth popping them a mail :)

    Hatty's Hardrock

By the way - I've not posted any of her riding (or much of her) because I have a policy of not posting pics of my kids online - and never do it unless they're 100% happy with it. In this day and age peer bullying is far too common and over ridiculously stupid things - so limiting what I put here.

And then, of course, we went off to the local forest for a ride. One very, very happy girl. And therefore one happy dad!

    Hatty's Hardrock

Then yesterday (being my one %$^£&* day a week I get to see them in the holidays) I took the box of bits and frame over... and this is what my wonderful 13 year old daughter and I did. Most satisfying bit was fitting the front brakes when she said, 'oh! I understand how it works now'. And that's...

    Hatty's Hardrock

Bit late catching up on this, but such is life! So... here's the bike as far finished as I took it, and then disassembled ready for my 13 year old daughter to build. (Was really chuffed with the saddle as well - looks sleek enough for the bike, but is nice and comfy to encourage her to keep...

    Rockshox Internals - Judy J2 and XC30

These are left over from my last build - I was trying to find anything that would fit my Dukes. So all NOS and basically offered up to the forks then put away again, when they wouldn't fit. Judy J2 damper (2006) - £15 posted to the UK XC30 100mm soft spring - £20 posted to the UK XC30 damper...

Re: Re: I inherited some tiny blue five year old's bike with white tyres, sadsle and grips while my mates were on BMXs... until I accidentally took it apart and 'upgraded' to the family grifter. :D

    Moulton

History of them is interesting - and oddly very British! Hadn't realised they even existed until I saw one last week - let alone that Moulton was invented hydrolastic suspension (amongst many other things)

    Moulton

Beautiful link - thank you. Lovely to see those old guys building in their workshop. :) (For anyone interested specifically in Moulton - they kick in after about 39 minutes)

They do look like a laugh yep - I think they come in 16 and 20 wheels? 20 I could live with (bmx boy) but 16 seems tiny!

I was getting my stripped XT crank thread sorted out (for my daughter's Hardrock) yesterday by a local guy in Redditch - Doug Pinkerton. Found him by accident on Google but turned out to be a genuinely nice guy with a deeply interesting workshop full of lovely things (mainly bent and waiting to...

Were any Zaskar LE frames made in Japan?

I'm not sure I'd entirely take that sticker seriously - as I said, I used to stick all kinds of stuff on my bikes frame BITD; mainly Mint Sauce though! But I'm not sure that Jo Burt built my Zaskar (more's the pity!) :D

Disc brakes v Rim brakes - Food for Thought

Seriously cool... fairly sure I didn't have those on my Grifter though :D

Ties in with what I've heard :)

Disc brakes v Rim brakes - Food for Thought

Thinking about this - some of the arguments on here are actually more related to hydraulic disks, rather than cable operated. So maybe a better question would be: what's the difference between cable operated disks and cable operated rim brakes vs the difference between hydraulic disks and...
