    Here's an old derailleur cleaned by the power of ultrasonic ... It was taken out about 3 or 4 times & scraped off what was soft! It saved me a load of time from striping it to clean!

    It cleans them very well indeed, but always best to get the thick off first. The ultrasonic method just breaks down the more stubborn contaminants that can't be reached.     I use an ultrasonic cleaner for all sorts of parts cleaning, using an alkaline solution in the tank with a Ph11.0/12.5 seems to be good for most parts, including aluminium. I don't use aggressive cleaning solutions as I found it made painted parts dull & aluminium doesn't clean well either...
