Lug and frame identification needed please.

Better than the cold brick garage with no heating, although not sure my wife agrees with me, but ‘Hey Ho!’ I’m sure she will forgive me eventually. Maybeeeeeee!

Lug and frame identification needed please.

Frame still a bit of a mystery but now fully stripped down and cleaned see photos, but thinking maybe a 1978 Raleigh Competition GS although parts spec does not really confirm this as mostly SunTour fitted. Forks maybe fitted later, and no frame number on fork tube. BB frame number indicates a...

Thanks for the above. I take it you mean to examine the headtube to check where Carlton or Raleigh badges would have been? I will be stripping frame down in December when time permits. Thanks for your contribution bertinjim.

My 1987 Peugeot Premiere Another of my workhorses. Some may say low end and not worth a respray and rebuild. See build thread to see if you agree.

    Reg Harris

I had one in the mid 60’s. Mine was an International in Florentine Silver/Venetian Red. It was stolen after just two weeks and I had to pay my father’s HP agreement back for two years after the loss. Police were informed, but never heard anything more. Wish i’d kept the frame number details.

I agree the Holdsworth Championship had same lugs. Does the frame number structure tie in with a Holdworth?

Lug and frame identification needed please.

Hi allenh. My thoughts exactly about the forks. Who knows in its previous life it may have had bent forks and maybe they have been replaced with all chrome ones. I know Raleigh made chrome forks as before restoring my Cobra I spoke to a local bike shop who had a set stored up in the shops loft.

No Probs. Thanks for your interest and input. I am learning a lot from such knowledgeable members. Really interesting article on Oscar Egg.

Lug and frame identification needed please.

Hi midlife . Just read up about Oscar Egg. Quite fascinating he made class lugs. As well as having a fascinating career. Not saying mine are class lugs, but nice anyway. Following my thoughts on Raleigh/Carlton. In allenh’s collection of bikes he has a Sun Snipe with what looks like similar...

Lug and frame identification needed please.

Hi PeachyPM it’s Rob not allen, but his bikes gave me another clue, but still a mystery frame. Don’t know if black was original colour, maybe all will be revealed when I get around to removing paint for respray. I love a mystery.

Lug and frame identification needed please.

My investigation into what this frame is continues to be a mystery. The bike shop has confirmed that they did buy frames in to build up to customers specifications in the 70’s, but sadly no records still exist as to models, serial numbers and who purchased the bikes. They have also confirmed...

Father & Son Claud Butler Christmas special

Wow what a lovely surprise your wife will get. Love the colour, always been my favourite. Can’t wait to see the finished bike. Great getting your son involved too.

Lug and frame identification needed please.

Hi Midlife thanks for the above . The serial number on the BB starts with WS8 then has a six digit batch number. I purportedly know where the bike was originally purchased (verbal) and today I plan to contact them to see what records they still have of the original purchase. My plan is to strip...

Lug and frame identification needed please.

Hi....., purchased this bike today and still don’t know the frame model identification. The serial number starts WS8 then a six digit number, so I recon it may be a Carlton or Raleigh frame, made in Worksop in December 1978, but this is my interpretation perhaps someone can identify the model...

    My Workhorse 1987 Peugeot Premiere

Compare the latest photo taken in the Autumn September sunshine this morning to the first photo on the thread and you will see why I wanted to give some lustre back to my trusty old bike. Just waiting for some gum wall tyres to arrive to complete the refurb. Good suggestion by allenh. Note also...

Thanks for the above. I enjoyed your thread on the Gran Sport even if I did get lost with some of the banter.

Is it worth the effort? To me of course it is!

Re: Re: Thanks....your comments are appreciated took it for a spin on my usual 20 mile coast ride this morning, sailed through a heavy rainstorm, a good excuse for a wash, clean and dry off before the starting the frame strip. Forgot just how rain affects these old ‘suicide brake levers’ think...

Thanks Jamie....I do like fettling these old bikes. They all still have something to offer. Often they are just lacking a little lustre!

Some may disagree with the above. Everyone is entitled to their own views. I recently picked up a very nice original spec (apart from pedals) 21” 1988 Raleigh Routier. It had clearly not been left outside and still had original tyres which stayed inflated. The whole bike will be stripped down...
