Jack Taylor Super Clubman Barn Find - * small update page 14

Re: Jack Taylor Super Clubman Barn Find - * small update page 7 Wow......Jamie that blue and yellow frame will make a great build. I’m becoming a great JT fan after seeing Spokesmann’s in Ulverston and now your two on the thread. A great find and looking forward to following the build.

    Me and the old Raleigh

Nice to see another RRS12. A good looking bike and mine is a 23.5 and a bit big for me, but I too like to ride bigger bikes. Mine was tucked away in a garage gathering dust for 35 years. I am not sure how many years they produced the gold and black version, but mine is definitely a 1984.

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Finished the refurb this afternoon. It rides beautifully smooth even if a bit big for me at 23.5" this will be kept special. Hope to ride it at VR Ulverston next year, although I must get some serious hill training in before then. Thanks for following this thread.

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Jamie’s right when he says old school.. Once I had a right crank come loose while riding in the mountains of Wales, the thread was stripped and a loose bolt the cause, I don’t carry a socket set with me on rides. So call it superstition if you like, but ever since when fitting the crank arms I...

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Bottom bracket was repacked today and the crank arms refitted with the help of my trusty rubber mallet and block of wood. The freewheel slid so easily onto the Helicromatic spline and was tightened using the locking tool which arrived from America last week. Wheels with new gum wall tyres, new...

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Thanks Chrisv40, Jamie and Peachy. I know the full history of this bike. I have the original 1984 purchase document and full provenience for this build. It was only lightly ridden and unused for so many years that the parts show very little wear, just seizure from lack of use.

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

After many years of none use the crank arms finally came off. The bottom bracket cups needed a good clean, the old grease had actually solidified and needed two hours in the degreaser to shift it. I'm very pleased the cups are pristine no pits, even the caged bearings show no wear, but are being...

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Been working on the bike today. Ordered the Helicomatic lockring removal tool yesterday, but impatience got the better of me and I called in to my local bike shop to see if I could borrow their tool. After a lot of digging they found one, but said they had not used it for many years. The ring...

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Thanks RabC..... It is in great condition for its age, been garage stored and not used for many years. Tyres perished, slight marks on handlebars due to another bike leaning against it. It has a small tear on seat and the stem was stuck, but now removed. I intend to completely strip, deep clean...

    1984 Raleigh Record Sprint

Here we go again one rebuild finished sat twiddling my thumbs. Thinking about another project now the Raleigh Competition GS has been passed on to my son on his birthday. The very same day I chatted to an elderly neighbour and told her about the fun rebuilding the GS and she asked if I would...

    Velo Retro 14 July

Hi It was good to meet other members of retrobike on the Sunday ride in Ulverston. I only did the Saunter, but we still had a couple of testing hills and the 36/30 chainset proved invaluable on the Carlton. . Our half way stop at the Dusty Miller Cafe was good and the food was great, all...
