State of the industry: a running thread

It helps to repeat the section about Roman ripoff prices in a Frankie Howerd accent.

State of the industry: a running thread

I dont really think that any of this is unique to the bike industry/sector. It's prevalent across multiple sectors of industry, commerce and society. It's consumerism without brakes or regulation. People "want" (expectations/pg pressure/boredom) and they will "have" because they are conditioned...

Motorola Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra SLX 1994

Actually, I think this "lump of black CF" is quite fetching and has pleasing curves. She's no less easy on my eyes as my Condor. Opinions may differ. That's not a bad thing, or a cause for a fight, as it makes for variety and conversation.

By heck. It's only in the mid-20s here in Qatar and so we are all feeling hard-done by. But snow..........

    Campagnolo polishing / engraving

But imagine the angst among the Shimano community when they are faced with the unpalatable evidence that Campag is simply more desirable and sexier! Copyright infringement and counterfeiting legislation is but a mere irrelevance ;)

That's as much art as engineering process. Utterly beautiful.

Blingtastic. Dont leave that lot unguarded. There will be magpies flocking to pick at it. Utterly lovely sight!

fear not. It was a feather boa from my daughter's dressing-up box. The barn owl was fed and released into one of my outbuildings, where it happily lived for a while. the Maine Coons tended to go for bigger prey than birds. They are huge cats, albeit placid and character-laden. They would...

There is a hidden Maine Coon somewhere in this scene of destruction

We live in a rural area, so occasionally we get to conduct a bit of animal rescue too. Barn owls are such beautiful and dignified gentle birds. Love them to bits. This youngster was fed and checked over before being released.

Some of mine, past and present. The Maine Coon destroyed everything he touched. Feather boa? Yum yum. The tabby was a "feral" farm cat. So gentle (to humans). The goldens lived a life of utter pleasure. Did you know that "retriever" includes deer and wild boar?

    Lube in Campag Record hubs?

Dont fall into the "British disease" of conflating value and cost. Focus on the value!

How to spot a good restoration project?

Are you not robustly encouraged to say Caerdydd and make a throat-cleansing noise as you pronounce the 1st syllable?

When did pedestrians forget the Highway Code?

Of interest, there were a number of cyclists (of this forum) who justified the wearing of earphones/headphones when cycling; stating that it didnt reduce their situational awareness. Go figure ;-)

semantics maybe, but the value wont reduce - unless you get fed up with it. The resale price will surely drop, but market forces dont apply to how you value your possessions. I have bikes with little resale price, but I value them enough to keep them and enjoy using them. Someone once said...

    Merry Solstice to you all!

Added pleasure comes from informing Australian/Kiwi "friends" that their days are now drawing in. Schadenfreude it certainly is, for so many reasons :)

Frequently used in regulated, safety-critical environments too. No one want to leave a loose tool inside a missile or airframe!
