Riding a big ride on a Whyte JW4.

Re: ah-ha! I did wonder if functionally there was much difference between the 2 (and the PRST-4 is the technically superior bike yes?) My wife and son both have Marin Attack Trails (same rear end) and I have just picked up a Whyte 46 (again same rear end) so looking forward to seeing how I...

Riding a big ride on a Whyte JW4.

Can I ask, why use the JW4 instead of the PRST-4?

    1999 Marin Acquired.

Re: ...it's exactly what it says on the tin (top tube) an XC-FRS Was part of the same line that saw the East Peak and Rift Zone. 120mm rear travel (from memory). Generally pretty good all round and good value for money. Design was improved by Jon Whyte later on with the 4-link rear end which...

    Bike weight question

Some bikes now seem really heavy to me. I think some of that is down to the increase in wheel size, but also down to an increase in fork diameter and length, and an increase in wheelbase - basically there is more metal everywhere! E-bikes I think have their place but whatever assistance you get...

    Bike weight question

Re: I remember someone once said (Colin Chapman maybe) that 'more power helps you in a straight line, less weight helps you everywhere'. Yes weight will add some stability but at the expense of manoeuvrability. A well designed suspension platform will help you more than something just being...

    Am I being unreasonable?

If you speak nicely to people, and treat them like an equal human being they are more willing to assist you and help you out. Some people on here could learn from that....

    Am I being unreasonable?

As promised I said I would update when Marin replied which they have. They are now happy to help which is good :-) What did come out in the conversation was something that some alluded to, in that the definition of 'lifetime' is a very grey area: 'In the bicycle industry, a "lifetime...

    Am I being unreasonable?

Once I have an answer back from Marin I will update. Either way, the thread has surprised me at how some on this group are the very definition of a keyboard warrior, casting personal opinions about someone they have no personal knowledge about. Fortunately I do not have to see them spout their...

    Am I being unreasonable?

...and therein lies the issue. Define 'lifetime' If you ask the average Joe in the street it will be forever. If you were to apply 'lifetime' to a frame, say a 90's aluminium one then what is the 'lifetime' of that - depends on many factors (miles/type of riding/where it's been stored etc etc)...

    Am I being unreasonable?

... which is exactly what I have already done. The point is not to pursue for a consumable part, but the trust in a manufacturer that has made a promise in the firm of a warranty and then will not honour it because they later changed their terms. If your frame with a lifetime warranty failed...

    Am I being unreasonable?

You make a MASSIVE assumption about both the bike and my wife. The bike is and has been regularly ridden by her, an extremely capable biker both on and off road, and maintained by me an ex mechanic and manager of 2 cycle shops. The question I asked was a genuine one, and the tone of your...

    Black Trimble spotted in Swinley

agreed - if the one thing standing between me and riding was getting an e-bike then sign me up. When you have groups of 20-somethings tearing up behind you and practically trying to force you off the trail because you are not as fast as them (obvs) you have to ask yourself what the point is...

    Black Trimble spotted in Swinley

E-bikes - hate them. Especially as Swinley isn't what you would call hilly. NOt sure I see the point in riding one. I mean, it's like sending your mate out to do 40% of the trails for you - exercise by proxy!
