How much do you trust an old bike

Simple question really, but maybe not that simple. I picked up a '92 Scott Windriver last year. Pretty much original, one XT shifter pod has been replaced but I think that's pretty much the only change from stock. Riding it for the first time a couple of months ago brought back lots of...

    Show us your Scott!!

Here is mine - 1992 Windriver. Totally original, looks like not a single part on it has been changed from factory and with the shiniest DX cranks I have ever seen! Aside from a few chips on one of the fork blades it is unmarked - you could eat your dinner off of it!

    Re-making broken items

Excellent find - believe it or not I was looking for the part number but couldn't find one just for that bit. Also good to know that they had a tendancy to crack - I was a little surprised to walk into the shed and find the pieces on the floor when the bike hadn't moved in 4 months. The price...

    Re-making broken items

An odd one but maybe someone can help. I have a small metal retainer made of alloy or steel that has sheared in half. It's tiny, maybe 1cmx1cmx1cm and is not repairable. I have both pieces so it could be assembled and scanned and a replacement made by CNC machining and tapping (it has an...

    Marin mount vision pro help

I have a Whyte 46 (same design) and had the same thing. It was a worn lower shock bushing. Unlikely to be one of the pivots as they were deliberately specified with very expensive bearings from new designed to last the life of the bike and around £5 each (not alot in real terms but quite a sum...

    Thudbuster question/Proflex elastomers

Interesting. The elastomer on mine is a bit longer (double the length by eye) but comes in 2 pieces with a spacer, but this guerilla fix is certainly worth a go. After all, what's the worst that can happen!

    Thudbuster question/Proflex elastomers

Hi Does anyone know what the length and diameter of the elastomers in a Thudbuster 3G are? Looking at maybe using them to replace the worn out ones in my Proflex Attack LE (not paying £50 for 2x bits of rubber!) but cannot find any indication anywhere of the dimensions. Or, does anyone have...

    NOS (apparently) Zaskar Frame

Look carefully on the left side of the dropout - definite signs of a QR being clamped. Agree it's probably NOS, built but only for display.

    K2 proflex 4500

1998 bike. Short travel by todays standards but reasonably rare and quite interesting. Rare doesn't mean expensive though! Maybe £4-500 to the right person - most in the world have probably not heard of ProFlex.
