    Old hubs new rims

I've got some MA2s on Shimano RX100 as backups. But I've gone tubular since some came with a frame I bought 2 years back. Campy Record / Nuovo Tipo + Mavic Monthlery Route + Vittoria Rubino 28mm (large flange) Campy Nuovo Tipo / Sunshine 5345 + Mavic Monthlery Pro + Vittoria Rubino 28mm And...

    Hetchins Vade Mecum H27329

Took me a minute to make the connection. I've met him - I got Winston (Varonha Frameworks) to do some work on my 1961 Holdsworth Cyclone, but I didn't know he had his own 'shop front'. It's really good to see he does fine paint work. I painted the Cyclone myself as a learning experience:

    Tub puncture repair.

I 'discovered' tubs a couple of years back when I bought a Holdsworth Avanti with Mavic Monthlery Route rims on it. Now I only ride tubs (Vittoria Rubino 28mm) and don't carry a spare. But my bikes are 1982 and 1961 which does help. Discovered after 100 miles and first flat that Orange Seal...

Replacing cup & cone BB with sealed. But which?

I replaced the BB in a my 1961 Holdsworth Cyclone with a Tange 3922 (115mm). But a thing to note is the Tange is symmetric, old BBs were probably not. I measured the chain line and clearance on my 1982 Holdsworth Avanti (original BB) and copied that: It turned out if I added a 3mm BB spacer...

    1961 Holdsworth Cyclone

Hiya Folks, Somebody on Accordionists.info just reminded me I used to use this forum a couple of years back when I rediscovered my interest in Holdsworths. I've been mostly using Bikeforums.net which is mainly Americans, but they're fairly civilised and can almost speak English. But I really...

    Mavic Monthlery Route spoke tension

I also asked my question over in https://www.bikeforums.net/. The experts there said spoke tension was generally lower in the early 80s, and the idea of measuring tension and setting it fairly high came in in the mid 80s. They said it wasn't a good idea to increase the tension on old 2mm...

    Mavic Monthlery Route spoke tension

In my research I did find this: By the way, there was an older Mavic rim with a similar name, but was not part of the same lineup. Some readers may recall a model called the Montlery (note the lack of the "h" in the spelling) Championnat du Monde which was a pretty common OEM rim in the early...

    Mavic Monthlery Route spoke tension

Cheers, The spokes don't feel very tight and I was concerned about damaging the rims. But I'm not certain any of them qualify as too loose either. I haven't adjusted a complete wheel before so I wanted the numbers to know if I'm in the right ballpark. Given the wheels are pretty true does it...

    Mavic Monthlery Route spoke tension

Hiya folks, I'm fixing up a 1982 Holdsworth Avanti which is original except for the wheels - Mavic Monthlery Route instead of Super Champion 58. It was apparently in somebodys shed for about 15 years until recently. I've done the bearings, replaced the cables, and unstuck the stem and seat...

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

That all makes sense, I should have realised they have to make them a while in advance. I hadn't spotted that the Avanti was launched in 1982. As of 11am this morning I now own #040102 (also 531 from 1982). Needs a little work, but I need some exercise :)

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Yep, I saw those numbers. But the insurance form wasn't filled in by me, I think it was actually filled in in the shop when I bought the bike. In which case the shop filled in 1982 as the year it was made. But it's too many years ago to be certain :)

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Hiya, I'm new on here, but I was looking for Avanti info and found this thread so I thought I would add a data point. I bought an Avanti in 1983 and I'm fairly certain it was 531 tubing (the salesman mentioned it a few times I think). Unfortunately a 'friend' broke the frame while hopping a...
