1958 Holdsworth Zephyr 54.5cm track frame

Yep, just looked it up and apparently the Zephyr and Cyclone are the same lugs by 1961. So this windowed version only existed from 58 - 61. 1961 Cyclone:

    Retro/Classic brakes for a tour.

I had a similar issue - the head tube on my Holdsworth Cyclone is quite short so a hanger would have obscured the badge. Resorted to the old trick of drilling the stem: NB. the stem is hollow so there's 2 holes that meet 1) Top surface perpendicular to be threaded and take the adjuster 2)...

    Retro/Classic brakes for a tour.

I've been using 60's Mafac Racer center pulls recently, working fine with Kool Stop salmon pads. Mainly used from the hoods and I can stop from there using 2 fingers each side. Might help that I'm using 80's Weinmann AG drilled levers and modern cables. Sheldon Brown: "Mafac calipers provide as...

    Long cage Super Record mech’

A SunTour Cyclone II GT will handle 8 gears if you file down one of the stops a bit. And it's a lot cheaper and lighter, and looks good too. I've got one with an SRAM PG-850 11-32 8 speed cassete (127mm OLD).

    Large flange road hubs.

Unfortunately Vittoria Rubino tubulars only come in black, and I quite like the tyres (got 4x28mm atm). Thinking I might try Vittoria Corsa Control next time, which do come in black/tan wall.

    Large flange road hubs.

The only real problem with large flange currently is the stupid amount of money the good ones go for on Ebay. I was rebuilding a 1961 Holdsworth Cyclone last year so it pretty much had to have large flange, but I did find some cheap early Nuovo Tipo and they look damn fine. I also hate black...

    Seat bolt question

I had a similar issue with a 1961 Holdsworth. From Doug Fattic https://www.bikeforums.net/21585236-post12.html Advice was 5/16" BSF 22 tpi. But it turned out I needed 5/16" BSCy 26tpi, which is an older standard. Late 70s is probably metric, or possibly BSF, just thought I'd mention there is...

Hetchins Nulli Secundus with stuck seat post

Haven't seen this mentioned, was £85 yesterday but will go up, 2 days left to run https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296214655863 59cm (just too tall for me) and I'm fairly sure it's 1960s not 1955. The frame number seems to be H28445 not H23445 (which shouldn't exist) which makes it 1960/1961 I think...

Can't see 700c on SJS, they've got some smaller ones though. They do have several 700c polished silver: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/rims-700c-29er-622/?colour=silver

    Old hubs new rims

I've just remembered some rims that get mentioned quite a lot on bikeforums.net, but haven't tried them myself: Sun Cr-18 700c polished road rim https://www.treefortbikes.com/Sun-Ringle-CR-18-700c-Polished-Road-Rim I've never seen them for sale in the UK though.

    Old hubs new rims

I'm not really a fan of anodised rims. But that could easily be because I use old rims and the anodising shows scratches/oxidisation, whereas non-anodised silver rims you can polish.
