Thanks. I recall it was standard English thread on this one. The stem, however, was not a std 1". I guess it's a French standard. The frame has an original Belgium shop sticker.

Well here it is folks. Test run confirmed that it goes as well as it looks - brand new! Darned comfy too.

There we go. Went up and over initially as I didn't like the tight bend on the outer cable but have reworked it and happy with the result now. I used one of those diacompe hangers in the past, they're very nice. Mine is a little more flexy than perhaps ideal but it is original and cleaned up...

Resurrection time - can I ask the OP how you've gotten on with the frame? Did you ride it? I'm considering a local 708 myself, and as a heavier rider I'm lead to believe 708 is a degree stiffer than many good old 531 frames so could potetintially be a good match for me
