    Jacquie Phelan poster

I have printed posters of the 1986 Fat Tire Flyer cover featuring Jacquie Phelan. They are printed on heavy 17" x 11" poster stock. Then I had her sign a bunch of them, which I am sending to my UK distributors, "Fat Tire Flyer UK & Europe." See Benji Norton at the Bike Cabin if you need one.

    I got this award...

Singletrack Magazine has informed me that I won their annual "Legends" award. Why do I feel like they made it up just to give it to me? In any event, it will look great in my trophy case, which is currently empty. Here it is.

    Being Gary Fisher

Gary Fisher's book has finally hit print, a little late for the Christmas season. It's called "Being Gary Fisher." It's not sold through traditional book outlets like Amazon or book stores, only from Trek or through Trek dealers. I have no information about the availability in UK.

    Remote Lectures

Re: Re: On my last lecture tour I took a last second gig at a pub in Hebdon Bridge. They had no setup for a PP presentation, so I just stood on the third step of a flight of stairs and talked. It was far more entertaining than my PP lecture, and I immediately quit using it. Anyone can do a...

    Remote Lectures

I have done a couple of lecture tours of UK to promote my book, but that is not currently possible. I have toyed with using Skype to present a PowerPoint that I created to help my lecture, but I have decided that I hate PowerPoint, at least in that context. My current idea is to present the...

    Klunkerz raises kash

I took part last week in a showing of "Klunkerz" in support of a local mountain bike charity, Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance (REMBA). Attendees paid a hefty sum to attend, $50, and then spent considerably more at an auction of donated items that included lavish mountain bike vacations...

Scans from the Mountain bike Legacy Project

I have been mining my archives and creating .pdf documents of the more interesting ones. I can't post those here, but I can post the links to the files on my blog, fattireflyer.com. Examples: 1989 Gary Fisher interview in Mountain Biking UK. Bicycle Magazine (UK) 1983 Mountain Biking UK John...

It was just 40 years ago...

[I wrote this for an American political website, but it is also relevant here.] It was just 40 years ago, late summer of 1979. For a couple of months Gary Fisher had been riding a custom balloon tire bike he had built on a frame made by Tom Ritchey. I had a similar bike built by Joe Breeze a...

Fat Tire Flyer now has a blog

Come BACK! Please? We had a bug in the blog software that told people to go away. Not sure what the purpose of such a "feature" would be, but it kept the traffic down to only spammers. Also, we got the domain name we wanted, fattireflyer.com. If you visited the beta test version, try again...

Fat Tire Flyer now has a blog

Facebook sucks. In connection with the Mountain Bike Legacy Project, I now have a new blog, devoted to mining my archives, and posting whatever other thoughts come to me. I thought for a long time about what to call it, and settled on fattireflyer.com. Easy to remember, right? I went "live"...

See you at the Malvern, but I'll need a little help

My friends in UK are trying to crowdfund my ticket to the Malvern Classic. I paid for my own tickets for the last couple of years, but I'm hoping a few of my RB friends will spread the word and kick in a few bob or quid or shillings or penny-farthings. Here's the crowdfund site. If it doesn't...

It was 40 years ago today

Actually the anniversary is tomorrow. This is the very first video of the sport that would eventually be named "mountain biking," filmed on January 20, 1979. This is hardly the first time this has been posted here, but because it's a nice round numbered anniversary, I thought I would give it...
