    1985 Barron restomod single speed

When it arrived it was actually a more vibrant yellow. In this photo I’m just test fitting some parts - I’m still amazed that modern parts will still fit on a near 40 year old frame. The yellow BB cups were just to test the threads, they’re old ones I use to mask the threads when painting...

    1985 Barron restomod single speed

I was on the lookout for a gaudy but decent quality 80s frame to hang some modern components. It would be single-speed to add some variety to my rides. This Barron fit the bill, sold as a 1985 (EBay seller’s photo).

    Threaded headset washers

I've replaced the 1" headset on a frame and the new headset is a lower profile, meaning there's now an excess of threaded steerer tube compared with before. I don't want to cut the steerer down so I've taken up the difference with three washers between the nuts instead of the normal one. It this...

Calling this one finished. Took it back to a bare frame and gave it a final thick coat of 2k over the decals. Dried really hard now, nice sunny day so I got the big camera out for some final pics. Really happy with the finish on this. The only mild annoyance is a small tracking error in the top...

It’s designed to mount to a threadless headset front plate. In this application I made a thin plate which it bolts to instead. The plate fits in the handlebar clamping gap under the quill stem, prevented from falling out by having the bolt run through it. It doesn’t interfere with the handlebar...

I always ride with a Garmin but the plastic mount would look awful and I can’t bring myself to use the rubber-band mounts. This is an out-front mount, cheap Amazon special which was originally black but polished back to bare alloy quite easily.

A bit more tinkering on this. A nice new reproduction Flite 1991 saddle. Very comfy much like the modern version I use on another bike.

Ps that’s not a scratch in the paint next to it, it’s the reflection of another bike. Guess the colour?

Re: A bit more tinkering before this is finished. The Billato-built Concordes came with a little Italian flag brazed on the top-tube. My Torpado (I think) built frame doesn’t have such nice detail and I thought about adding an Italian flag decal in the same position, but decided to make a...

Re: Some lovely warm weather last weekend so took this for first proper ride, but first an update: After a long search I randomly found a narrow-wide chainring in 135bcd so the carbon cranks have been covered to single-ring and transferred to my modern winter bike. A search on eBay and I found...

Re: Cheers Jamie! That looks a beauty, love that paint scheme and would’ve gone for that if the decals were available. Shame you had to let it go but hopefully someone else is enjoying it

Pedals are Decathlon own brand Keo compatible, they were white but I polished that off to reveal the bare metal.

Re: A couple of last things. I swapped out the seatpost compared to an earlier photo, the Chorus one was nice but at the height I need it, the Campagnolo text was half hidden in the frame. I’m vain but also value my knees so sourced another with the shield logo much higher. A Victory model? I’d...

Cheers, I’m really pleased with it. It’ll be used for summer trips to the office, a nice 18 mile b-road route. It rides really nice and doesn’t feel an 8 multipack of Coke heavier than my best bike on the road, in fact I don’t think it’s much slower. BTW If my wife asks, it’s not a new bike -...

A quick aside about Shimano cassettes. I have Campy ergos on three bikes now, all running shimano cassettes and chains. This is mainly because they’re much cheaper but they also have better ranges and I can hand-me-down parts across all bikes. In this case I’m using Centaur 10s brifters and...

Re: If the derailleur cable looks a bit funny, it’s because i’m using an adapter to use a Shimano cassette. The adapter is a pulley and takes the last bit of cable through a 90 degree turn. I’ve also used a drop-link so the Campy derailleur will take an 11-28 here, although I’ve also got an...

I’ve routed the cables so they don’t rub the head tube while the paint is still relatively soft. I might change this later but quite like how it is.
