    Wanted - Seat Pin Bolt

I'm after a seatpost bolt for my Raleigh project. I think originally it was a Specialites TA allen key style bolt - but has been replaced with a nasty rusty std bolt arrangement. Anyone got something suitable? I realise there are loads of these available on eBay from China - just wondered if...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Re: Re: Much appreciated on the deal on the sprockets - hopefully another piece of the knackered jigsaw fixed! Good tip torqueless - I'll go easy. Lots to learn that's for sure. Bet it was a shock when the wheel let go......I've witnessed a road tyre go pop from 100psi (at rest...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Trying to do little bits to this project every night just to keep things ticking along. Turned my attention to the wheels this evening. I think the Weinmanns and Campag hubs are quite clean and true under the grime but the original "rustless" spokes are now anything but..... I have a...

WTD: Suntour Ultra 6 freewheel 13-21T

Thanks for the replies guys. I picked one up on eBay last night and I've PM'd you MatBH5......should give me some options to getting a good set of cogs together for my bike. Cheers all.

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Hoping so.......and hopefully it'll glide along silently with all its balls adequately lubed....... I've done one of these before - out of curiosity - so I knew what was in order this time round. It's got an adjustable cone arrangement for adjusting bearing clearances and is fairly...

WTD: Suntour Ultra 6 freewheel 13-21T

I'm after a Suntour 6spd free wheel - specifically just a couple of the screw on cogs - 14T and 15T - but realise I'll probably have to buy a complete freewheel. The one I'm fixing has 13,14,15,17,19,21 teeth on the cogs. Similar to the one pictured - the Maeda Industries one...... Anyone...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Cleaned up the freewheel components - separated out the pawls and flushed all the muck out. Paid careful attention to the bearing surfaces - cleaned off all the hardened grease and got them looking reasonable. A lot less pitting than first thought! New 1/8" balls, lithium grease on the...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Re: Re: Cheers Chris, the turd has indeed polished up well. I'll have a measure up of the dropout screw and get some ordered - thanks for the link. Got the freewheel off the hub and separated out the individual cogs by mounting on a block of wood and using the chainwhip. Unsurprisingly...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Sorted out the original seatpost. Mounted in a lathe and cleaned up with 320g then 600grit paper, finished off with scotchbrite and WD40. Some corrosion marks still present but I daren't go too far with it for fear of removing too much material and loosing the engraving detail. Post top...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Re: Re: I asked the missus to buy some Revels when she went round the shop so I could compare.......they didn't have any so she came back with M&Ms (I didn't explain why I wanted the Revels to be fair....and I like m&ms) Bike is now nekkid.......and had a polish and removed the...

Pleased to get it out relatively unscathed. I've got a mid 80's Campag Aero post in 27.2 size so I may use that now that it's out.......we'll see which looks the best. No messing. I'll be trying that method next time I come up against a stuck post for sure! Hardest part was paying for...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Started stripping the Gran Sport down last night in order to sort out some of the issues. Crankset off and bottom bracket out - frame upside down and chucked a load of Plusgas down the seattube and let it sit over night. Then today I broke out the big guns...... I've tried cutting posts...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Spot on! Thanks for that - love seeing adverts from the time......mines a year previous to that so slightly different graphics (scroll-like text for "Raleigh" and the older style 531 sticker)......I guess they didn't do the Caramel/Chrome colourway for many years. Just 1982/83?

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Yes - I've had a read through your build thread, love the direction you went with it - ended up looking grand. Hopefully I'll be able to rescue this one.......got to love a stuck seatpost to deal with! That paint matching looked like an interesting experience......I have a few scuffs here and...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

Looking forward to riding it thats for sure, if it's anything like the Competition 12 I should get on with it very well. Be interested in seeing the advert you mention if you still have access to it? All the bikes that I have that fitted me well are the 25" Raleighs (I can ride smaller but...

The faded Caramel beast......'82 Raleigh Gran Sport

A few years back I landed an '82 Raleigh Competition 12 - I renovated it and it was an absolute joy to ride........but slightly too small. Like it needed a fractionally longer seatpost to make it comfortable. It was close but not close enough. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=357417 So I sold...

1950 Claud Butler Avant Coureur - a cloak of many colours

Been gathering a few parts for this.....decided I wanted Williams cranks....similar to those fitted to my other 50's Claud. Spotted these on eBay today for a tenner. They're dog rough but they were cheap and I have a plan for refurbishment. Worth a punt..... Set of GB standard levers -...
