Is the Race Face really that orange? Are the ends still intact enough to fit barends (Ergon ones) and increase it's length a couple of inches?

That might be a little too wide ;) Can I make the assumption that a couple of mm clearance is sufficient or can I go a little closer ie. 1mm

It's been too long since I rode any steel frame so I'm not the best person to answer this. I'm 6'1" and the seat post height in this picture still allows me to sit on the saddle and touch the ground whilst in tiptoe position, perfect for kerb height ;) HTH

I snapped up a good one last night. A set of Shimano R770 STi's, pair of Avid SD7, bar and stem all new, off a Giant for £32, finally a cheap answer to my wife's neck problem and her Specialized Ruby Comp. I must admit I was tempted to do a 30-speed Pine Mountain :D

Are you sure? Here's a scan of the 1990 Pine Mountain, the 1991 has a few more painted areas.
