When did Shimano first launch SPD?

I agree: SPDs were and still are fantastic, and the 737s seem to be bomb-proof. I forgave them, and still use the shoes and pedals now. I did, however, learn a valuable lesson in re-tensioning things as they break in a bit. Still, the hospital gave me a lovely polaroid picture and I was...

    Manitou 1 elastomers

Hi, Was there any joy in getting these elastomers? Slim, I have PM'd you. Sorry for posting here also, but if you managed to get some I'd really like to buy a set. My current ones are completely shot, which means no bike :( Thanks, Damien

    Elastomers for Manitou 1 forks

Hi, I'm looking to buy some new elastomers for my Manitou 1 forks (either original unused products from Answer or something new that is decent quality that can be cut to the right length and has a 6mm hole). Not too fussy on soft, medium or hard; just want a decent working fork again. Any...

Manitou 2 Elastomer Change, help required please

huntso and elite504, thanks for the info re elastomers. I seem destined not to get elastomers for my Manitou 1s. My bike looks so sorry for itself with its collapsed suspension! I'll put something in the wanted forum on the off chance though.

When did Shimano first launch SPD?

M737 pedals were definitely on sale in 1992. It's etched in my memory... I got a pair of them for Christmas 1992, and in January 1993, while accelerating down a road, managed to unintentionally release my left foot and jam it between the spokes and the fork leg  . It launched me...

Manitou 2 Elastomer Change, help required please

Have you managed to get the elastomers recently? I need to get hold of some for my Manitou 1s, but I'm struggling. I've found a reference to a place called CVI, but if you have any alternative suggestions please let me know. In terms of doing the change... If they're similar to Manitou 1...

    Bike repair stand.....

I should get a stand, but do most of mine with an old inner tube looped over a garage rafter then slot one end of the handlebars through each loop, and then a couple of bungees looped over the rafters supporting the saddle. Swings about a bit though!

Everyone has their Raleigh era, which one were you?

Raleigh Budgie (purple, handed down from my Sister) Raleigh Striker (gleaming black, and loved it) Raleigh Pacer (small racing bike with 5 gears and unbelievably wide tyres) Raleigh Mustang (some sort of purple-pink colour. Was stolen, which made me happy as I could then get...). Raleigh...

Best Mag - Old or new.

I used to buy MBUK and MBI around 1991 - 1995. First time I'd looked at a new issue of MBUK for years when I picked one up last week. Was nice to see the article about Jason McRoy. I always found MBI a bit more serious, but quite liked it. Is it my memory going, or did it have a different...

    Manitou 1 Forks

Pete, thanks for your reply. Makes sense to me. I have the Manitou manual, but it's at my Mum's house 100 miles away. I'll get it when I'm next there and check the order of bits before I put the forks back together. The original forks with the frame were chromoly (something steel based...

The 'Introduce Yourself Here' thread II

Hi, just joined after finding the forum searching for replacement parts for my Manitou forks. I have a Dynatech MT4 frame with Manitou 1 forks, and 1993 XT groupset (1993 DX B/B and headset). Mavic M231 rims on XT hubs, with Ritchey Megabite (front) and IRC Geoclaw tyres (rear). Shimano...

    Manitou 1 Forks

Hi, I've just joined the forum and wonder if anyone can help. I have some Manitou 1 forks fitted to a Dynatech MT4 frame. I built the bike back in 1993 / 94, following an accident on my previous bike, but had lost my bottle and it has ended up covering only a couple of hundred miles to...
