Anyone want to swap Dura Ace 7400?

If you google "Sheldon Brown Dura Ace Compatability", there's a bit about the 8 speed Uniglide and ways around the common issues. Apparently they only used them for one year, so replacement issues aren't uncommon.[/i]

    Front tub / sprint wheel

Hi Found now thanks. I'm a noob to tubular tyres and fancied giving them a go. I've got an old Fiamme rimmed rear wheel and I'm looking for a front wheel. It doesn't have to be Fiamme and it doesn't have to be shiny & perfect. 32 plus spokes, silver alloy finish and cheap would be...

Carlton Carrera 531c - what seat stays should this bike have

I believe Raleigh's made in Worksop had a W as part of its frame number. I was under the impression that Raleighs with a W frame number were made in Derby (not Nottingham or Worksop) as part of Raleighs Lightweight Unit, along side the SBDU bikes.

    Raleigh Record Ace 531c, 1983

I paid for this a while back and had it couriered to me. The plan was to send it on to a friend overseas, but that probably won't be happening now. It's currently still sitting boxed up in my hallway, so if anyone is interested let me know. I'll unpack it an take some more photos and list...

Are these Ken Bird frames the same?

There are a few "proffesional / hobby traders" on this site and the other bike websites, it happens. Although I think, an it's only an opinion, that it would be good if atb is Hilary Stone, he could possibly contribute to some of the enquiry type threads. Hilary obviously has a lot of...

    Un-lipped rims. Will I die?

I use some unlipped alloy rims and to reiterate what has been said above. As long as you stick to a wire rimmed tyre you should be ok. I initialy tried some folding 27x1 1/8" Panaracer Pasela. I fitted & pumped them up as normal, all seemed ok for 5 minutes. Then I heard a strange noise and...

Help identify these 2 very old (possibly pre war?) bikes!

The Sturmey Archer gear hub probably has a date code on it? They look kinda 1950/60s to me.

I pulled the architrave of a door frame when I weighed my postmans bike

Want to weigh your bike/parts/cat cheaply and accurately?!

Possibly worth mentioning that you get a much more consistent reading if you hang the scale from a fixed point, door frame, garage roof joist or tree. I use a digital scale for fishing, an you can get all sorts of readings when you just hold them up.

Anybody know how to tell the age of a Brooks saddle?

I believe Brooks also used to use a letter date code, it was marked on the underside of the leather. But Brooks lost the details of how it worked a while back unfortuanatley.
