    Kooka tech question

I come up with a 113mm BB . This is a compact 22 tooth crankset and the arms are /were right where I would want them . I did not check the chainline.

Can you get away with using mixed 7 & 8 speed stuff

If you have a seven speed freehub you will need to change to a 8 speed freehub and probably re-dish and re-space if you are not already at 135mm spacing.

    Kooka tech question

I have a set here I was going to pull off a Zaskar for ebay , I can measure the BB if you have not found your answer. Most likely tonight or tomorrow will be as soon as I can get to it though.

    Fitting a chain

I'm in the Large-Large + 1" camp, never thought a miss shift destroying a RD is a sound I ever wanted to hear.

    Thin MTB frames

True, consider rider weight into the equation and the same bike will be Nirvana for a 145 lb rider and a noodle for a 210 lb rider. That said , the later Trek 900 series actually have thinner tubes than the early lugged 900 frames, have modern Norba geometry, excellent tubing and are cheap as...

    the BEST hardtail ever???

Owning a early rigid Zaskar (1992) I would disagree. My 1995 rigid Stumpjumper while, no noodle rides better, Handles at least as good , better IMO, and definitely wins the grin contest hands down. I just don't see a Aluminum framed non suspension corrected bike beating out a over sized Tange...

    '91 GT Avalanche

I bought mine off EBAY USA 2lbs for less than $10.00 usd. It only takes a tiny bit for a kiddie pool to get .02%(by weight) you just have to do the math to get the solution correct . Bikeforums.org in the Retro-classic forums has lots of threads on OA. Just neutralize the acid with Sodium...

    '91 GT Avalanche

I would try .02 % Oxalic Acid in a kiddie pool for a couple of days before anything else. Will remove the rust and not harm the paint. Do a internet search, lots of information out there.

    GT Zaskar

The first four numbers of your serial number will be month/year of manufacture.

    Trek 990

Not much love over here either, I like that also!

    Clear coat on old paint?

Just clear it yourself with a fizzbomb enamel. Strip the bike, wet sand with 2000 grit and follow the directions on the can after wiping down with acetone or wax and grease remover.

    Rim suggestions

I have a gold one on a built up wheel , unfortunately shipping from here would be prohibitive.

    The (re)birth of a Zaskar -update 03/10-

The Manitou's on that bike are boring, the rigid 3D even in the low position makes for faster steering. I traded my manitous off once I rode the rigid's on my 92 Zaskar.

    Today's bike find - 1991 Bridgestone MB-1

Bad move IMO . Touch up the paint and shoot a coat of clear enamal over the top . I have the testers enamel color code for the grey if you are interested. If you ever decide to sell it you will be sorry if you repaint.

Just won this - U Brake Zaskar!

If the tubing diameter and lengths are identical to a Zaskar I doubt anybody could tell any difference in ride quality as stiffness is determined by diameter and not thickness for the most part. Of course Zaskar purists will argue this point .

    Worst rigid MTB ever ?

Ha, that's what my wifee tells me, " you never met a bike you didn't like"..........

Just won this - U Brake Zaskar!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news , but that is a Taiwanese built frame , not a USA built Zaskar and if it is a Zaskar it is post 1999 and needs to be moved to the other forum. Since it does not have a replaceable derailleur hanger I vote 90's Pantera.

    Worst rigid MTB ever ?

Cad 3 , Classic norba geometry ......goes around corners just fine.
