PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

Really? Small world! Well the bike is being well looked after as you can see. I was surprised there wasn't more interest in it really. The picture the seller supplied was a bit naff, and the information was sparse, but I still thought there would be more interest. I had £10 on it until 5m to go...

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

Good point on the tape. Yes under normal circumstances I wouldn't be allowed them anywhere near the house. I've had loads of work to do on both bikes, the weather has been crap, I only have a small shed, so I think my wife just took pity on me and allowed them in 1) so that they would both get...

Tape looks naff but ohh well. Will swop it later. Can't wait to get out for a nice long run on it! N

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

You are right! I love tinkering. It's a strange mix though, because part of me wants to get the job done ASAP, but then when it's all finished, I miss not having anything to take apart! I made a boob, and ordered green bar tape. I don't know why I did that. Impulse probably. Anyway, it's a...

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

Final pictures to come, but last night I got the new tecktro levers fitted, the cable outers cleaned out, and the new inners (gear and brake) fitted. What a bugger it was trying to route the rear brake cable which is routed inside the top tube. No doubt there is a simple technique but I did not...

    Stumpy Mudguards

Agghhhhhhh!!! Nice! Never heard of them. That's that sorted then. Found rubber lined p clips on the bay for £3 delivered (5 of them). I might need to shorten the length of the mudguard rods a bit but that's an easy job. Cheers for that! N

    Stumpy Mudguards

Hi all, Thanks for the feedback! Yes those are the ones I was talking about. I do have a set of full length guards but my dyna tech frame doesn't seem to have eyelets. So I was going to cut my guards so that they could fit from the brakes only, rather than have to buy a set which can attach...

Hi Tel, Nice bike! Similar shade of green. Took a look through the photobucket album - looks great. The build is going well. I don't have any photos from this evenings work, but I managed to take it for a maiden voyage, albeit with no brakes or gears! The 7sp cassette and spacer work well...

    Stumpy Mudguards

Hi all, do any of you use those short length guards? I was thinking of getting a set for my build project from an aesthetic view point, but are they any good? I'm referring to the kind that would attach at the brake only, and are approximately 8 inches long. Cheers, N

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet Make sure you video the event! (Not to share on here - that would be weird - just for memories sake). N

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

Well respray complete. Not my finest work but with work commitments, a young family etc I tried to get it all done in a day. In an ideal world I would have spent longer on it. Anyway, went for a pearl white with an applejack for the lugs and dropouts. I like it. Maybe not to everyone's...

    1977 Carlton project

Looks great! Will be nice when it's finished. As for the DIY respray it's possible to achieve a good finish with a can, but is time consuming (and still fairly expensive). I spent £40 on my current project (Raleigh Dyna Tech). It's my second DIY respray. Couple of tips I've picked up: 1)...

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

DOH!!!!! Of course! I could have just removed the smallest sprocket from my 8sp and added the spacer. I went and ordered a 7sp rear cassette and a spacer. What a moron. Do and then think - that's me  Anywho, I can sell the 7sp cassette if mine works. Incidentally there's a few...

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

Hi Tel, I would like to get my current wheel to work, as I'm trying to do this for as little money as possible. Would adding an additional spacer on the DS and taking one away from the NDS not affect the centre line of the wheel relative to the frame? It looks pretty central at the...

PROJECT DYNA TECH - Build Thread

:D Hi Tel, And thank you for your detailed reply. Yep, I feel chuffed with my £26 purchase. There's no way that I could have purchased all of the individual items for anywhere near that, so to get the all for that price was great! Yes, when I strip the frame I will post additional pictures...

Anyway, enough pictures for the meantime. Now I need some advice! 1) The seat post is seized. Any ideas? I rolled on it outside the house (no cassette - see point 2) and the seat is at the perfect height, which is great, but I'd still like to get it unstuck! There's no bolt at the seat post...

Ill keep the top of this thread updated with the current before and after pic. 10/12/12 vs 29/5/13 UPDATE: 19/12/12 I don't want to edit any of the original thread below, other than to say I started out with the intention of picking up a cheap road bike to build into a winter hack -...
