Advice on lightweight 'training bike' frames (653 ?)

Doubt you'll find many 653 or 753 frames with mudguard eyes as these tubesets were usually built into road frames aimed as racing, so mudguard eyes and clearance would have been un-cool amongst other things. I have seen the odd frame where eyes have been added at some point, but these are...

Raleigh 753 - all by SBDU?

perhaps try and re read your posts before hitting the submit button Didn't sound very friendly to me. I'll just clarify my point about changing a wheel whilst in a competition. I've seen other posts where chain pegs were said to be usefull in these circumstances. My experience is that...

Raleigh 753 - all by SBDU?

wow, sorry if I didn't read your post word for word, why don't you find another forum, I thought this one was to celebrate the bikes, ask and maybee answer a question or 2 rather than get antsy. Remind me not to bother with any of your posts in future

Raleigh 753 - all by SBDU?

you didn't need to have a SBDU frame to have a chain hanger. They are on my off the peg Raleigh 531 and 653 frames. They are quite good for keeping tension on the chain if you hang your bike with sans wheels, but not much use in a race if chainging a wheel. I found both as a competitor and...

    retro road bike wanted

bobo, back in the day when an 80's bike was modern, a rule of thumb was about 10 inches off your inside leg measurement. If you are of an average build for 6ft, then I'd say you are either a 22.5inch or 23.5" this is measured centre of bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube, known as centre...

    riding position

was wondering in case you were going to offer it as a make weight in a deal for a larger frame. Also what size do you really want? Is it 57cm measured centre to top in the old fashioned way?

what tubing is your frame made from?

    riding position

I would personally find the angle of your bars and therefore the position of the sti lever uncomfortable to ride with. Riding on the hoods in this position would cause aches for me no doubt.

buying my firtst steel framed road bike

I see you have a thread going over on the for sale/wanted area and have a reply about a decent sounding bike. Re the ebay one in Newton Abbot, If it's really 7 speed STI then getting spares may be a pricey issue, as will upgrading to 8, 9 or 10 speed. The description isn't great as it'll have...

    Some tiagra road parts

Hi, the value of old parts is very subjective I know, but for current stuff, take a look at Ribble cycles or Merlin and perhaps Chain Reaction Cycles and you'll see they bang the stuff at near or better than your prices with free postage. That said, On ebay, I've see Tiagra + postage going for...

Mavic GP4 rims - what type is this one?

I raced on GP4s, back inthe 80's if you wanted to a road racing wheel it was mostly GP4 or SSC. Hubs were usually Campag or Campag copys. Screw on freewheels were the norm until Shimano came along with an alternative. The braking surface is what you see on the picture, profile rims didn't...

    1987 Raleigh frameset catalogue
