    Rounded Allen key head

Before you start working your way up use the biggest drill bit that will fit inside the hexagonal hole and give it a quick push. This will create a little spot bang in the centre to then begin stepping up from the smallest. much easier the centre the hole this way.

    Show us your bike history..

Re: Here's my rather pathetic list compared to those above!! racking my brain.... 1992 ish - Al Carter Sidewinder. My first mountain bike. IIRC, it ran 200GS although my proudest moment was replacing the front mech with an XT one. Should have kept that at least!! I think it just died and...

    YOUR TOP 5 MTB BRANDS/MAKES!

Re: 1, Pace. Ive had an RC200 F1 an RC300 and still own a (broken) F8. They've all been beautiful to look at and ride, if a little flexible and ultimately fragile. Never had any suspension forks that weren't made by them either. 2, Klein. Owned two original Attitudes and there's nothing quite...

    kona explosif or not?

I'll go with whatever the manufacturer wants to call it for a given application. As a general rule though I'm sticking with circumferential. Surely they were named thus after their similarity with the bone of the same name. Google "fluted tubes" and then "ribbed tubes" for the majority...

Pitting in cups and cones - any tips?

An interesting idea, Once perfected you'd have virtually endless stock of hubs to use. There may even be a marketing opportunity there...a retro enthusiast's dream come true.

    kona explosif or not?

Re: Re: Not wanting to start a war here (especially as I haven't really frequented here for so long) but ribs run circumferentially, just like your ribs and other ribbed items.... Flutes run longitudinally.

    kona explosif or not?

Re: So if fluted it's an Explosif, if non-fluted it could be an Explosif!! Thanks :D

    Different types of rc35s

Re: Re: I've had a few RC35's over the years but have only ever seen the tubular brace with the canti band. I assume this looks like the XCS? (I cannot find any pics either).

    Rounded Allen key head

Re: Is the bolt in question the only thing holding the pivot(?) on? The reason I ask is that if you do decide to use an easy-out then drill the head off first. A drill bit fractionally smaller than the bolt minor diameter will be sufficient: M4 minor diameter 3.14mm so 3mm drill M5 minor...

    kona explosif or not?

Re: Gonna throw this in but happy for the experts to correct but I thought that the '93 - '94 era Explosifs had the fluted down tube?

Kona Explosif ~'94 (ribbed down tube) silver/blue 19"

Re: Thanks for all the info guys. I haven't been on here for a long time and clearly I'm a little out of touch!! I thought I saw an article about the '94 bike being the first with the ribbed down tube so assumed that to be the one. 'not sure if there is some overlap of the model years vs...

Kona Explosif ~'94 (ribbed down tube) silver/blue 19"

As title, I am trying to find an Explosif frame like I had many years ago. If I recall it was a silvery/gold fading into blue and definitely had the longitudinal ribs (splines?) on the down tube. Cosmetically I don't care but I would love it to be physically sound, and 19" Cheers,

    Cutting a thread on a 1 1/4" threadless steerer

I would have thought any local engineering firm (with a machine shop) would be able to do it on a lathe - assuming its a loose steerer and not in a fork. It will be 26 threads per inch and they should be able to set that on the lathe feed.

    Pace RC300 Red 16" - sold

My favourite bike has been ridden only once this year so has to make way for my other (more profitable!) hobby. I'm not interested in PX/swap unless you have a Nikon D3S?! :D Edit: bike is in Portsmouth, Hants. I am happy to deliver within the county for a minimal fee. Much further than that...
