Restoring my vintage falcon road bike

Have you considered having a set of wheels built using hubs for a screw on freewheel?

    Help identifying campag parts

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the hub takes a screw on freewheel. No original skewers I'm afraid, they came to me with Sachs skewers. The other components on the bike these came from would be consistent with a 1988 - 1992 timeframe, although these campag parts could be more recent. I was very...

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

It's really starting to look like a bike again. :) SSC 631 Starfish crankset now polished and fitted. These are 170.00 39/53 and only needed mild fettling to remove minor marks. The beauty of the 631 is that they're polished and lacquered from the factory rather than anodised so they're very...

    Help identifying campag parts

Can anyone help identifying these older Campag hubs and cranks please? Chainset is marked 384 on the arms Thanks. :)

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

Positive. Forks have French threads with 22.0mm internal diameter. Frame has French threads on the BB. An unpleasant surprise as I already had a pair of SSC headsets in hand (310 & 305) but both are English thread.

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

I like the matching wheels! :) I'm aware of the Mavic stems but I've yet to see one in the 22.0mm French size. Any that I've seen are 22.2mm Maybe someday I'll get lucky and score a rare bargain.

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

Changed my mind on the front derailleur and decided to keep the group as full SSC so... Started with an 810 (clamp on) and 862 (braze on SSC) Finished up with a 812 (braze on) and 860 (clamp on SSC) The only difference between the 810 and 860 is that the 810 has silver anodised parts and...

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

A bit more progress yesterday. The rear wheel cleaned up nicely despite needing significantly more effort than the front. The SSC Hub is smooth, spokes are tight and the rim is true but unfortunately it's offset about 3 or 4mm too close to the drive side so it'll be paying a visit to the LBS to...

    Mavic SSC group

Since it's not a full groupset you'll probably do better selling the parts separately. Check completed listings on eBay for ideas on individual prices. The chainset and rear mech will fetch good money if they're complete and in excellent condition.

Fat Chance 94' Yo Eddy – Re-cycle-starter challenge

Great thread. I love the way the build criteria are changing as the shiny trinkets become available. :D

Modern Principia Ellipse SX build, 6.85kg

Re: Modern Principia Ellipse SX There's some serious potential for loveliness in that frame.

    Vindec junior speedster

The metalwork's coming up a treat. I wonder how many 2015 bikes will have survived as well 50 years from now? I remember these. A lot of the slightly older kids had them when my generation were going around on Choppers.

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

Brrrr... Sub Zero temps and snowing outside made the man-cave rather uninviting yesterday but since the postman had arrived with a box of goodies I decided to start cleaning up the wheels. Only managed the front one before running back inside for a cuppa! I'll be using a set of wheels...

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

Re: So a bit more progress made over the weekend. One of the awkward parts of building a French spec frame is that the French forks use a slightly narrower stem which can really restrict choices. I was lucky to source a Cinelli 1R in excellent mechanical condition and hopefully the right...

Vitus 992 seat post screw thread

Looks very nice indeed. I have some spare Vitus (Top tube, seat tube) and 992 decals in yellow. They were too translucent for my dark blue frame but should look great on the lighter silver. PM me your address if you'd like them and I can post them to you. Martin

    A Raleigh Olympus 5-speed renovation - FINISHED

The school bike sheds used to be filled with these and Carltons. This one looks like it's fit for the same service for another generation or two. Nice work, well done!

    Vitus 979 Build - Revisited

I initially started this build almost a year ago but due to an illness that affected my balance and dexterity I was unable to continue and had to shelve the project temporarily. I've now recovered sufficiently so, let's try this again. The starting point is a later model Vitus 979, 56cm frame...

    Howlindawgs Vitus 979 build

Let's get something straight right off the bat. You lot are a bad influence! Having seen some of the lovely builds on here I decided to indulge myself and build the bike I wanted (but couldn't afford) back when I was racing as a youngster. First up was tracking down a suitable Vitus...

    Vitus 979 Mavic groupset

Looks Great! Very similar spec to my own except that my Mavic headset wasn't suitable for the French thread forks.
