If the brake drop is only very slightly short, you can get away with filing the calipers to squeeze an extra couple of mm - I've just done this to fit a 49mm brake onto a frame of similar age.

There's a constant flow of the repros on eBay Italy - similar price to Hilary though once postage is factored in. Perfect fit. There's also a generic version without the logos that's about a fiver cheaper. Haven't tried those, but was planning to get a pair for some Suntour Superbe levers.

Tektro R556's also have a long (73mm) reach and are fairly easy to find.

It's only older & low-end Raleighs that have the awkward sizing - anything halfway decent & post-mid 70's *should* be ISO/English, I believe. Definitely worth checking before splashing out though...
