Eroica Britannia 2016 - anyone signed up?

Nope, but certainly a kindred spirit.

Which of these component compromises is least wrong?

    Which rear mech is it? 80's braze-on Simplex front mechs aren't *that* rare.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SIMPLEX-BRAIZ ... SwT6pVhUX- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SIMPLEX-SJA-2 ... SwLVZVgROZ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Simplex-Spide ... Sw3ydVi8w3

Eroica Britannia 2016 - anyone signed up?

I was catching my breath & taking a photo at the top of Mam Nick last year, feeling pretty chuffed with myself havig made it up in one go, when about 30 seconds behind me, an Italian guy on a fixed 30's behemoth cranks his way up, pauses only to flip his flop, and then freewheels down the other...

Eroica Britannia 2016 - anyone signed up?

Maybe we should have two Eroica threads each year - one for bitching about prices and hipsters, and another for people who actually want to talk about the ride, the festival and the bikes. Anyway, I'm in again and am currently assembling bike #3 for year #3. Prob just the 55 mile this time...

Ignorant newbie basic question re compatibility

As you may have gathered, 70's Pugs can be a bit of a minefield. If it's Carbolite, you can expect an awkward-bastard seatpost size too. They often have the model number on a white sticker under the BB or chainstay, which would help pin it down..

What bottom bracket size for a TA crank on 5 speed

In an ideal world you'd want a TA 314, which is 111.5mm like you say:

Can anyone help identify this 50's/60's road/path?

Well spotted! I have previously seen a couple of Holdsworths with similar seatstay caps too, so that family is certainly a possibility (I've also seem similar 'ridged' caps on Mercian & Bates frames). I think the problem here is that without a frame number or former decals to go by...

Can anyone help identify this 50's/60's road/path?

Re: Thanks for the suggestions, I'll do some more digging in those directions... And no, no sign of frame/serial numbers of any type as far as I can see - I've stripped the bb shell, track ends and steerer tube, but not a whisper there :?

Can anyone help identify this 50's/60's road/path?

I bought this unknown road/path frame a while back, and it was advertised as having "some Mercian-like features". Having had a trawl through the Mercian Frame Registry, I can agree that's true, but there's nothing to really nail it as one. On the one hand, similar lugs, 'ridged' seatstay caps...

    Saving an old Peugeot

You're not measuring the seattube C-T length correctly (possibly including the seatpost?) - there should be no more than a 1-1.5cm difference between C-C and C-T.

    frame fitting thread sizes.

M5, same as the bottle cage threads.

    Interesting image about Hardisty Cycles.

Indeed it is, about half a mile from where I'm sat. Sadly, the only Hardisty frame that's passed through my hands was a rebadged Saba rather than Kevin Winter-built.. (though he did straighten the forks of my current project a few months back)

    F.W. Evans 1950/60

That's lovely. My current 50's road/track project is shaping up along very similar lines, down to the Berthet pedals and Mafac half-hoods on Concorde bars..

What rear cassette for Eroica Britannia. Help!!!

I had a 42-26 bottom gear last year, and did succumb to walking a couple of the climbs. I'm packing a TA double and a 28T rear this time around..

Global Cycle Decals on eBay. Anyone used em, decent quality?

I bought a set from Global about a year ago. They were friendly & accomodating to deal with, being happy to slightly customise a set for me, and threw in a freebie set of Reynolds decals too. They seemed good quality, but they're the first I've bought so don't have anything to compare them to. I...

Dave Yates 1970's bike, immaculate condition and hardly used

That's a beauty. Dave Yates didn't start building frames for M.Steel until 1980 though - from the frame number, I'd say this dates from '82ish.

    L'eroica 2015 - prices doubled!

The standard ticket price has actually come down this year - £60 as opposed to £70 (though early bird tickets were £55 last year). They're now charging £60 for 3 days camping for up to 4 people though, while it was free last year. I've booked and have friends to stay with in Bakewell, so no...

Mafac brake lever clamps - 23.8mm (or cheap complete levers)

So, finally acquired the bars and stem I'd been looking for, only to discover the levers I'm mounting on them currently have 22.2mm clamps... I'm therefore looking for a pair of Mafac lever clamps with the larger 23.8 clamp size. Like these but ideally less than £20 and not halfway around the...
