    After 753 ?

I've no intention of selling any of my bikes. I am happy with what I've got; thing is - I just want more :). I acquired all my bikes as frames (projects) and I guess that I just like having something to work on. Part of it is the urge to 'collect' :D I suppose; . . . . . . . the old n + 1...

    After 753 ?

Hi all, I have a SBDU 753-framed bike, with which I'm very happy. It certainly feels lighter & more responsive (for whatever reason) than my 531-framed steeds. Thing is though, I'm wondering "What next ?" Having completed one 'project', I'd like to move on to another - I certainly...

Oops, I've been shopping. Again again Damn Ebay!

Flowers ? Mine would settle for nothing less, than yet another pair of shoes. :)

    Sun frames

I fully agree with Spokesmann !!! Too many people are dismissive of anything that isn't Reynolds 531 tubing (or equivalent). The fact is, this Sun frame represents a type of bike that many of us will have ridden in our youth - before we could afford 531 frames. Yes, they may be a few pounds...

    Carlton Pro-Am - worth a repair/restore?

I can only echo the above comments; all that you 'need' to do is to replace a wheel - it certainly doesn't warrant a restoration. I had a Carlton Pro-Am which I very much regret selling. Sure, other bikes might be 'flashier' looking, might be fractionally lighter etc., but I've never found...

1977 Raleigh competition G.S. ground up restoration.

It looks really superb ! - You can paint one of my bikes, anytime. I think that the colours that you've used, look entirely appropriate. But how did you get such a good job ? What kind of paint did you use ?

Wednesday tip find Friday rider - '84 Raleigh Record Ace

The thing that makes me green with envy; is that this is not the 1st or 2nd 'find' that LGF has made at his local tip. A few years ago, it used to be possible to hand a £5 or £10 note to the guys at the local tip tip, and take away a bike. I never did, 'cos I never spotted anything worth...

    Some of my bikes

I'm very happy with the bike, at the moment, but that are changes to be made. The saddle will probably be changed for something which looks more fitting . . . . . . . but is probably less comfortable. I was slightly tempted, to go for more modern and lighter wheels than the Open Pros, but...

    Some of my bikes

Hi Shaun, Thank you for your interest; the frame number is SB7953.

    Some of my bikes

Cheers for your kind comments. I think many people overlook the Geliano - making the assumption that it is either a (modern) aluminium or carbon fibre frame. I especially like the seat stays, which are lower down than is customary and the fin behind the head tube. I find the Evans to be a...

    Some of my bikes

You are obviously a person of taste  These are two of my more auspicious bikes. The first bike is a Geliano, a French frame with an Italian sounding name - they thought it might help sales. The frame was a top-of the range one and would have been custom-built. The fork crown...

    Some of my bikes

Here are some of my bikes; all are used frequently. Yes, I know that I've not got original parts fitted; but I have got parts fitted that work well . . . for me ! The Ellis Briggs is 1973; the others are from the early 1980s. I hope my missus doesn't see this - she thinks that I've only...

    Tommy Simpson query

Hi All, An old guy in the pub, told me that Tommy Simpson (as a young man), took part in either the National 25 or 50 mile time trialing championships in the 1950s ( he can't remember which year). Anyone know if he did compete and which year(s); if so, how did he get on ? Thank you !

Question on frameset on Raleigh Rapide

I agree with Shaun's comments above; the most comfortable bike that I've ever ridden, was one very similar to your own.

    campag chorus/ 8 speed cassette

If it is a 70s steel frame, you should have no trouble in fitting the wheels; as mentioned above, there should be enough 'spring' in the frame to do this.

    Help Raleigh Team Panasonic

Who is to say that they are 'wrong' parts ? I thought customers could fit what they wanted ? Personally, I'd ride that bike 'as is'; sure, the OP could spend a small fortune on Campag bits, but I don't believe he would notice much difference - not in terms of the money that he'd need to...

Help to ID frame and forks thanks

. . . . . . . as I mentioned previously, in the quote below . . . . . . . The seller of the frame is a member of the V-CC and widely held in high regard. Of course, the purchaser will feel obliged to fit 'original' parts, with the 'dealer-enthusiasts' eager to supply parts to complete the...

    753 Weight?

Re: frame weight I'd check your scales ! My Raleigh 753R frame (55cm) weighs in a 1800kg. I've never heard of a 753 frame weighing anything like 1.4kg. If you look at this website, you'll see some weights given . . . http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/reynolds/006reynolds80brochure.htm
