    Sourcing Old Fork Seals

The Judy dust seal thread has reminded me about something. Fork seals (it probably wouldn't be much else would it? Although Judy from Richard And Judy now springs to mind. Judge Judy?) Has anyone ever tried an industrial seal supplier for old seals? I'd be surprised if fork companies designed...

    S-Works M2 Team - 1995 Build

Well, the 'Plan B' build is complete for now! It weighs in at 25.5lb which is lighter than I thought it would end up, and the head angle is probably 5 degrees steeper than my modern hardtail, so I'd better treat this with a bit of respect but I'm looking forward to taking it out for a rip...

    S-Works M2 Team - 1995 Build

Ummmm.....this has had to take a temporary change in direction. My 'modern' fillet brazed 650B hardtail is now going to be stuck at the local frame painters for a while, and as my local trails are on the infamous North Shore of North Vancouver, a 130mm Ti stem with a reputation for...

    Hi guys!

Greetings. I think it partly depends on what your local trails are like. As a few random thoughts, Cannock Chase, Long Mynd, Thetford, Forest Of Dean etc would all be fun on a retro-bike. riding down The Beast in the Peak District with a 130mm flat stem / bar and 50mm travel fork? Maybe not so...

    S-Works M2 Team - 1995 Build

Hi de Hi Campers! I had one of the first M2 Team Ed frames BITD: It was my last race bike and other than the paint falling off it and it breaking, it was great! I've just been given a '95 S-Works version so I'm going to build myself another one. The frame was a bit rough with a lot of paint...

Which retro Carbon DH frame to go for?

I have a soft spot for those thermoplastic GT frames so was slowly drooling over the first pics. However, the Giant is surprisingly nice. I originally gave up MTBing from 1994-2000 so I've not seen one before. Without the garish yellow (and fender.....), it looks like they can be built up to...

Check this out awesome video Herbold Tomac

From the Youtube comments: "Tomac is cool and had a very good style, but I still don´t know which talent Herbold had apart from being extroverted and dressing up like a parrot?!" Ha ha! Yes, watching that reminded me of what it's probably like to drive a Ford Capri. Lustworthy in 1983, but...

    Fat Chance Kickstarter

He should at least have a prototype built up and some geometry figures! I've just had a frame fillet brazed for me to my own design for a small fraction of what he's charging....just by an unknown builder....which is what his are too at the moment. Bizarre.... And $25 for three stickers? Are...

    Coolwall : Raleigh or Saracen

Re: It's a bit like asking which is cooler, Dawes or Coventry Eagle  I initially thought Saracen due to two nutters carrying them up Kilimanjaro and also the fillet brazed frames circa 1990(?). But then the Raleigh team bikes of the Baker / Timmis era were pretty rad. I can't make up my...

Bontrager Hipster Conversion = Wife get outta jail card

    Shimano Deore Thumbshifter Rebuild/Mod Guide

I guess it's only partially OT as it at least still involves a thumbshifter :) When I first tried it, it was dreadful as the Dynasis derailleur is designed around more cable pull, so the shifter would have to go around about 180 degrees to hit all the gears! I did a simple mod to the...

    Shimano Deore Thumbshifter Rebuild/Mod Guide

Interesting stuff! Some time in the future I might have to see if I can mod a LH XT thumbie to operate a dropper post (heresy!!), as with another mod, I'm using an RH XT thumbie with an XT clutch derailleur and 10sp cassette (friction if not obvious!).

THE (not so)GOOD, THE (pretty)BAD AND (very) UGLY

I'd say the '92 Vertex is if it's not too far gone. Locally made and only for one year, and if anything like mine will have awesome welds and finish in general. Alas I had to sell mine to fund my custom built fillet brazed frame (of 2014 vintage....). The Fusion will be a 'Made in Canada' frame...

show us your modern-retro crossover bikes

Another abortion of a 2014 frame just to annoy Hotwheels :xmas-wink: although it does fit into the description of the OPs in one way or another. 2014 Whishart frame. Designed by me and made a few blocks from my place in East Vancouver by a riding buddy. One reason for it being somewhat retro...

    EXOTICA ONLY..........!

Re: Re: And yet funnily enough, the modern 'enduro' type mountain bikes share much more resemblance in terms of design to the klunker type bikes. Slack geometry, short stems, wide bars, wide rims....the list goes on. The NORBA style bike proved to be an evolutionary dead end unless you like...

    GT Xizang 16", Liverpool.

It'd be interesting to see a tape measure run along that seat tube.... Assuming GT are measured center of BB to top of seat tube, then that's a big-ass 16" frame :-0

    AIR B inner tubes ?

I just noticed that I also posted the pic below on the same Facebook album, and there was a long discussion between old riding buddies and the final verdict was that is was 1990 (Scarborough). Mainly due to the bikes, and Matt Farmer driving his parents Volvo through a hedge and halfway down a...
