    Klein Adept Rescue!!!!

I like that. Personally I’d make it 1x and use the front mech cable mounts for the dropper. I reckon that would still work with a monarch rl and some rebas too for real retro mod. Lots of potential to play with over the years.

    Modern bike saddle dilemma...

Funny, I never got on with my Flite and ended up selling it, just a bit too narrow for me. The Charge Spoon though, I have ridden thousands of miles with one and have them on all my bikes. My eldest, my brother and 2 mates use them too, the more ubtle ones blend nicely with older bikes too. A...

Lights, lights lights...for Mayhem....10W dual LED

Re: I would say this is b etter and cheaper: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brite-R%C2%AE- ... B01KORSCJ4 Been using one on the bars for about 6 months at night. 4 x Cree LED's. I use a custom 4 cell pack with 4 Samsung 2500R batteries (bought from a UK vape supplier so genuine cells and not fakes)...

    Bottom bracket, square taper upgrade?

Re: When switching to 1x assuming the bb size is correct, you place the single ring where the middle would otherwise be so the chain line isn't extreme at top and bottom sprockets. I've done 3 conversions now, one on external bb, one on ISIS bb, one on square taper. The square taper was the...

    Bottom bracket, square taper upgrade?

Re: Re: I think the ISIS standard had a lot of promise. The splined system is certainly better than square taper for ease of removal and has the familiar cartridge type BB axle of square taper. The FSA alpha drive which looks like ISIS has lasted many years in first my father in laws bike and...

Dropper posts, why and should I?

Re: Did some tech riding on holiday only took my xc 29er, I could of used my dropper for sure. Used the qr but it's just not the same and having to stop to put the seat up and down (and not getting the height right and having to do it again) is a pita after having the dropper in the trail bike...

White Wine for the Lady? Kona Explosif makeover

Re: Re: Looking at the vapors they are quite cheap and are fairly knobbly. I wouldn't say they'd roll that well to be honest (the Conti X-King or Race King are the fast rollers from the Conti Range) and they are described some places as an entry level enduro tyre which means they'll be tough...

White Wine for the Lady? Kona Explosif makeover

Based on my ladies requirements (she doesn't ride often) she wanted something comfortable (decent sus forks) and fast rolling so it's easy going and as she won't use her bike in the wet and she won't push hard tyres can be quite the faster rolling ones with the lighter carcasses. I'd go with...

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

Thanks for the offer, I won’t need that but, I may take you up on the 9 speed free hub body in a while as I’ll be converting this one to 10 speed and the one for my daughter will go 9 speed as I only now need the free hub body and goatlink.

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

Well the current project has run into a problem. It appears the slx rd m675 rear mech has a different pull ratio to my deore sl m530 9 speed shifters. May have to go 10 speed on this one and 9 with a goat link on the other bike

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

OH, that's easy enough then, i might go 9's then with the goatlink and Deore mech I have or see if I can grab another SLX for £25. 1 x 9 does seem to be a good idea and as Box have picked the standard back up for wide range cassettes it may get a new lease of life and soldier on for a while yet...

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

I thought the 8/9 freehub needed a narrower hub body than 7 (I must admit I hadn't measured) to fit inside a standard 135 OLN dropout spacing?

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

Looked at those but for that I'd need to replace wheels and shifter too, might as well go 9 if I do that as Deore 9's shifters as excellent and dirt cheap as are most of the wheelsets. It was a popular and a long lived standard (still current at the bottom end of the market) so there's lots of...

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

What I'm going for that one, not a wide range really though in comparison to 11-40 in the 9's, which if used with a goatlink on a regular mech, should probably work OK on 7s range wise (Box get away with 11-50 on the Prime 9 9 speed), but as 7s is dead we'll likely never see anything like that...

1x conversions: the new way to mess well preserved classics?

In the process of building up my eldests old Kona Blast Deluxe for my younger lad. He doesn't get triples so I'm building it 1 x 9 with a 34T up front and a wide range ZTTO 11-40 cassette, this only about as heavy as the old Deore 11-34 but offers a good enough range for him. Should keep weight...

Dropper posts, why and should I?

The £100 Brand-X/Tranz-X ones are actually very good, seem to outperform/outlast the £300 Reverb by some margin and the travel restrictions are generally in the small diameter ones because of the diameter and not the pricing. I have a dropper on the trail bike but on the XC for the amount of...

same route 2 totally different bikes, 1 retro 1 modern...

MBK is where my money is at. My Kona Dawg which is the same year, even though a better design (IMO) with better parts (suspension is Fox/Marzocchi) as the Fisher. My Kona is slower on mixed XC riding than my old Butler by miles and leaves me knackered too. It does leave it in the dust in...
