I couldn't see what bike the guy was on, but attached to it were Manitou ones. Guy riding was wearing an orange and black waterproof jacket at about 12pm.

Nope only the red ones do, same as a nettle. The least chemical way of dealing with them is a kettle of boiling water on the entrance holes.. Unless the black ones are woodland ants in which case I think they bite aswell...
