    Mikado Touring

Hello, I had sort of an anti-climactic moment when stumbling across this Mikado Gaspe tourer recently. It was one size too small, but that could be compensated for. However, when I picked it up and then brought it home I hadn't noticed the frame had had some front end damage and not worth...

Singles Ad - Lonely Fork seeks Frame

I think I did err. The fork steerer is 1-1/8" and thus the headtube on the frame needs to be too. Older mountain bike frames don't seem to have 1-1/8" head tube too often(?). From what I understand they are usually an inch. I'm not familiar with the new threadless systems yet. Apparently there...

Singles Ad - Lonely Fork seeks Frame

I picked up a modern fork (used) a few months ago for a Surly Pack Rat. It is a threadless type fork built for a 26" wheel and I wanted to mate it up to an older mountain bike frame. I was told any mountain bike frame should do as long as it has provisions for a 1" headset. I like the fork and...

Wanted Attn Canadians - XL Frame

I'm in Winnipeg and am always interested in having an extra frameset or two. Steel is preferred. I'm not a collector and seek good quality (but not exotic) utility frames to use. Sizewise, a 24" seat tube and 23" top tube would work. The top tube is the crucial metric though.

Wanted Tall Mans Frame - Canada Only!

After snapping 3 steel mountain bike frames at different points on each over the last decade, it is good practice to have a spare or two standing by. If you are in Canada and have some extras you want to move out of your stable let me know. Need a 23" top tube minimum, and usually ride a 24"...

Does your frame use replaceable brake studs?

Bought a lone Surly Pack Rat fork recently on the used market. It does not have replaceables either.

Does your frame use replaceable brake studs?

I have never owned a bike with replaceable ones but sure would like to. GT Timberline, BRC Explorer, Kuwahara Sage, Maruishi Mountace, Raleigh Elkhorn, Leeworld Mountain Sport, Diamondback Apex - all have non-replaceable studs. I have used thin brass shimstock to remove excess play on the...

Does your frame use replaceable brake studs?

As the thread title states, how about your frame? Does it use replaceable studs or boss mounts for your brake calipers? I know that several older frames out there do use them, but (surprisingly) even some more modern ones (built in the 2000's) don't. If yours has replaceables, then name the...

    Norco Catalogues

I've been looking for old Norco catalogues for quite some time now off and on to no avail. Living here in Canada, one would figure something might appear but no dice thus far. For Canadians with access to those old Norco catalogues, perhaps consider scanning one or two and adding them to the...

1990 Diamondback Ascent Tubing I.D. svp

Uknown, Old Fisher. Records indicate Diamondback did use TT tubing but whether or not this one is Tange or TT is yet to be determined. I found this thread which goes into it >>> https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1990-diamondback-ascent-finished-19-12.124880/ chrisv40 states that his 91 model...

1990 Diamondback Ascent Tubing I.D. svp

I've got a 1990 version, just the frame & fork (curved, not straight) though and not the EX model. The frame had been repainted some kind of appliance white. Carefully scraping off the paint reveals a few of the frame decals underneath. It was designed in USA, made in Taiwan. 100% Cromo MTN...

Brands we never see on RB?

Those brands definetely do not appear here (in this part of Canada at least). Maybe the occasional Dawes.

    Show me your Raleigh's

Yes Indeed, mid 80's for sure. Was a nice ride. I would have liked to have seen another bottle braze-on on the seat tube and perhaps mid fork blade braze-ons. Replaceable brake boss braze-ons too! Not enough bikes have that feature.

    Show me your Raleigh's

Prior to the Kuwahara I use now, this was its' successor; a Raleigh Elkhorn with Raleigh "555sl" tubing and Shimano MT-700 shifting. Unfortunately, it developed a frame failure and was retired (in a Bladerunner sense).

Wanted Ergotec Charisma Stem - Source SVP

Hello, I am looking for an economical source for an Ergotec High Charisma stem in at least a 110mm length and 31.8 clamp for a 1-1/8 steerer, preferably in black. I have seen a few offered on some German e-commerce sites but many are not currently available. Whereas, there are a few other sites...

    Frame saver / rust protection

RUSTCHECK, if you can get it. Widely available here in Canada and probably the USA too but unsure about yonder. It's an oil, a creeping oil. Gets into all the tight places and remains there. In harsh climates like ours we heavily salt the roads in winter which is brutal on unprotected metal...

New here - I usually ride a hard tail steel MTB

I consider a hard tail bike one that has no rear or mid suspension. I am not sure what we'd call something with no suspension at all. Yes indeed regarding the spiked tires (we call them studs over here). In that winter picture above, the rear was a Schwalbe GT365 and the front a Continental...
