2000 Commencal Supernormal - sent to try me

Re: When I got it the bike was in a bit of a rough state. Everything was pretty dirty, and lots of things looked pretty worn and cosmetically in poor condition, so I stripped the bike, binned some of the worn-out components (more on that later) and started to clean the rest. With hindsight I...

2000 Commencal Supernormal - sent to try me

I took delivery of this as a complete bike back in February 2014, but its taken me until now to get into a rideable state - and it still has issues and isn’t finished. I must admit that’s largely because I’ve been busy with other things and this has been forgotten on and off. The bike in...

96 Orange P7 - from dog to the doggies...

Re: Thought I'd update soem photos of this as it stands today. Fork has been swapped for an F7, saddle for a minty Orange Enduro, seatpost for a NOS USE post and the stem for a Ringle Zooka. I also changed the cassette for a M900 XTR, but I don't think thats in these photos. There are still...

Best way to restore a nickle p7

Re: Re: I had a P7 frame re-plated by a guy called Bryan Purves, website here. That was about eight years ago though, not sure if he will still do bike frames. Link to my build thread here. Apologies for the photobucket images..... It was expensive, but he did a great job although t almost...

Sunn Xircuit 1997/8 rebuild **updated 080520**

Re: I don't know what the axle to crown length was on the SIDs I had (2003 SID Race I think), but pretty sure it was more than 2cm longer than the rigid forks. Looking at your photos more closely I think the front end of my bike was noticeable higher too so I guess they must have been longer...

Sunn Xircuit 1997/8 rebuild **updated 080520**

Re: I guess its personal preference at the end of the day, but I put the Sunn I had SIDs on back to rigid and prefer it in terms of looks and handling, with hindsight I think the SIDs were too tall for it, and I'm only ever going to use that for gentle riding too. I think the headtube badge...

Sunn Xircuit 1997/8 rebuild **updated 080520**

Re: Looks good, very clean. As someone who rode a 98 Sunn with a similar SID for some time, I'd definitely recommend the rigid fork or finding an original Sunn Obsys, ideally the carbon one. Regards the headtube badges, I've bought a couple of these. Looks like they are out of stock for 98s...

    Lubing Shimano rapidfire shifters

I had a Shimano rapidfire shifter that wasn't clicking through the gears very smoothly or consistently, so I removed the cover and gave it a clean out with some GT85 which seems to have fixed it. Before putting it back together I assume I should apply some lubricant, but what's best? Wet lube...

    Learning to do tricks

Re: I've been trying trackstands against a wall after watching this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tZsy_lIF34 I find it much more difficult than doing them outside on a slight incline. Could that be a psychological thing, as you can't just ride out when you feel you're losing balance?

Front mech for 63 - 66 degree chainstay angle

Front mech for 63 - 66 degree chainstay angle

I'm after a front mech for 63 - 66 degree chainstay angles, bottom pull and 31.8mm clamp size. Ideally something mid-late 90s LX or XT if such things exist, but really just want something to finish a build. Does anyone have anything they'd sell?

What's happening here? Front mech / chainring position issue

Going to fit the front mech on a new build and I've run into an issue getting it positioned properly that I've never encountered before. With the mech as low as it will go to avoid the trailing part of the cage from hitting the chainstay its still nowhere near the chainrings. Below is a...
