Sorry, I wasn't being pushy; I don't even own a Specialized!
I've looked but can't find the search terms I used to find those pictures, but the way I see that custom mount boss working:
- Original brake boss is removed
- New boss is screwed in (M8?)
- Larger diameter hole washer goes underneath...
Bellow pics suggest a proprietary mounting boss that screws into the old brake boss hole. It makes sense that they would have incorporated the female spherical cutout in the ali forged body.
As an alternative, two pairs of spherical seat washers (one above and one bellow the bracket) could be...
Nice one hARro. Creative way to get the measurement!
From pics I've seen, It looks like the canti-mount area might use some dished/cupped washers (like V-brake block mounts) to allow everything to bolt down firmly, even when the faces arn't parallel.
I'm thinking without the washers, the fin or...
This sort of thing adapts post-mount to post-mount for larger sizes.
Out of interest, why are you looking to build without welding?
For the brake boss mount, you might be able to cut the plate into a sort of "P" shape and fold the tab through 90 deg.
If you had access to a fly press you...
Hi hARro, If you want to improve on the Spesh design, you could change it to directly use post-mount.
The dimensions you need are here:
http://www.peterverdone.com/wiki/index. ... e-Spec.gif
That way you can reduce weight and some complexity (the off-set), but you would need to drill and tap...
Mate, if your a chippy, you could mock one up out of wood to sus out the form and dimensions.
You could bolt it onto the bike and screw on the calipers (the M6 screw should bite into a 5.5mm hole sufficiently to prove the fit).
When your happy, give the mock-up to the engineering company and...
Surely if the Specialized part didn't foul, then a re-manufactured part would be OK?! :?
What might be useful for people is if you could give the critical dimensions for the part, then the individual could flesh out the detail of the design for their manufacturing process. More people might be...
Someone to do the rest of the hard work too!
To be fair though, I design and make things like this and I wouldn't be able to pull enough information off those images to be confident in making something that fits.
Now with the bike in front of me and the spec. of the mount (like i linked...
You or your friend measure up the hole centres and other dimensions of the frame you have, then use the information here:
http://www.peterverdone.com/wiki/index. ... e-Spec.gif
to fill in the blanks. Think about the forces and the directions they are going in and add material or cut-outs to...
Re: Only frame left
Good job!
Mentioned the bike to the Mrs and she said she only wanted if it had a motor! lol
Maybe put the frame up in a new thread or edit the subject and op?
Re: Giant XTC, Price Reduction
Hi, interested in this for the Mrs. but she's only 5'3". I'm guessing 17" is a small... looks like it.
Any more details: year, spec, shock condition?
Thanks,
Nathan
