Very nice, reminds me of my first road bike. It was a Giant CFR with aero forks as below. Sold it a while back but it was a nice bike and carried me plenty of miles. My brother'n'law still has a red and black Cadex very similar to yours.

Donor rear derailleur. A bit scratched up, but seems to be in good working condition. Give that Shimano 600 seems to be printed on and not engraved, polishing this may not be an option.

Me too! Couple more pics of the donor parts. Shimano 600 shifters. I think i may still go with the Exage ones to begin with as the hoods on these are a bit brittle and impact the lever action slightly. From what I have read there isn't any good fitting new substitutes though?

Progress has been a bit slow lately while waiting for some parts from Wiggle. They have arrived now so I think I have all the bits I need to start putting it all together.

I think some of the anodising has come off already where a shoe or leather strap has been rubbing the crank arm. Just got to find some of that metal polishing cloth and I'll give it a go :)

Still chasing a few parts and sourced a bike with complete Shimano 600 6207 series groupset (including hubs, pedals and bottom bracket) which will be used as a 'donor' bike :) Not sure whether I should use the cup and cone bottom bracket from that bike (which looks and feels to be in good...

Thanks for the polishing info. I have seen Brasso in hardware shops here. So the cranks are silver anodised on the outside? Any issues with polishing this off?

I didn't realise there were special tools for them! Are they to tighten the top nut thingy?

I wasn't sure how to best polish them, or what to use? So far I have just been getting rid of the dirt and grease and giving the parts a good wipe. What do people use to polish cranks and other parts?

Also gave the hoods another clean with a toothbrush and shampoo as recommended, and they do look a bit whiter now.

He was in Adelaide when the Tour Down Under was on and rode a charity ride called Ride Like Crazy. Its a 100km ride through the Adelaide hills, so I shared the road with him and about 1000 others. I'd love to, but the budget won't stretch anywhere near that far! I that Phil Anderson in you avatar? Got to ride alongside him earlier this year in Adelaide. His calves are still huge.

I used some Gumption (general purpose cleaner) on a rag with a bit of warm water. Never thought about shampoo, but will give it a go.

Finished cleaned the hoods. Much better but they still have a few cuts.
