When did it lose it for you.....

I've always admired the idrive: useless AND ugly. I can't help but feel they were made as the result of a bet between an engineer and a marketing person.

When did it lose it for you.....

I like e bikes, BUT they are astronomically expensive and I shan't be getting one for a while, if ever. I have toyed with the idea of a Bafang setup on say, an Orange five, but I'll always love the basic simplicity of an unpowered bike with as little to go wrong as possible. And with as mad a...

Getting the swingarm off a 2000 Marin B17.

Hi People I got hold of a 2000 ( ish) B17 that needs some help and can;t get the swingarm off - I have taken the retaining allen bolt out but I can't get the axle out of the thing. I'm wary of just hitting the bloody thing with a hammer - any suggestions? Cheers.

When did it lose it for you.....

Oh yeah, the clock dials. The loss of Suntour didn't help matters either. Their stuff always seemed so nicely put together but it was practically gone after 93. Does anyone else remember how scathing the press were about STX's lack of serviceability?

When did it lose it for you.....

I kind of lost it around 1999 - by then I had a two year old Marin Rift Zone, a decent job, depression, a nervous breakdown and a divorce. it didn't help that the bike mags had turned into terrible Lad Mag wannabes ( how many half naked women could you cram into a two page ad, a "tech" article (...

Picking up a 91 'Dale SM 500 Tomorrow

Thanks for the info! I had a Specialized Futureshock back in the day, which as I understand it was basically an RS1 in a posh frock, so I remember those pumps - I will have to get hold of one.

Picking up a 91 'Dale SM 500 Tomorrow

I have picked it up, btw and I can say so far it needs new wheel / BB bearings, headset looking at ( probably needs a new one ) and the front wheel is not original. New cables of course. Suprprisingly the flexstem elastomer is fine - it's even quite supple. It will be getting a new saddle and...

Picking up a 91 'Dale SM 500 Tomorrow

Thanks for the observations - I am not completely au fait with RS1's - are the mismatched crown and lowers a problem? ( I will have to strip and service them in any case - they are locked.) there is no sign of a frontal impact - all the front end of the frame is straight and no signs of stress...

Picking up a 91 'Dale SM 500 Tomorrow

Evening people. Long time lurker here. I shall be picking this up tomorrow morning: The front end of this reminds me of that old Mint Sauce cartoon with the oversuspended bike : "You can ride over old grannies and not even feel the tins of cat food." Other than the front and and saddle it...

Sustainable disposal of a Raleigh Maverick?

What Oaklec said: that's in really nice condition as well. If you are keen on a charity getting it, these folks know what they are doing and will make sure the bike is serviced and sold for a good cause: https://www.cyclistsfc.org.uk/our-shops-1.php
