After much research I now know cannondale use a 49.6 mm cup this frame is approx 2006 / 2007. It's a coincidence that in later years a 49mm headset has appeared I ve managed to source the correct ( I think) headset As the modern alternative would be 0.6mm smaller

The modern aheadset that I bought is bigger not smaller Just been looking at head sets 1.5 inch equals 49mm I measured the cannondale headset at 50mm so this seems correct But the angleset headset is 56mm so what does it fit ?

There are the modern boost hubs now which have different spacing [ wider] than standard qr wheels I could be wrong but I think that's what these are intended for
