Fixed gear mud and ice bike

I ran a slightly higher gear on my fix for the commute from Whitchurch to Reading but that was fair surfaces in the main part but 34x17 is a good easy gear for fixed in these parts. Studded tyres, unless you have them already, would be a touch of overkill given the few really icy days we get in...

theboy's fedback forum - someone had to start it.

Retraction to the message below. Goods turned up 24hrs later. Pedals are as described and well packaged. More communication from seller would have been nice but I have what I paid for so will grumble no more. -------- Still nothing two weeks after paying for pedals. Have PM'ed a couple...

What is the status on the pedals? I'd appreciate an answer on this as I am now £25 light and have been for two weeks without any response from yourself.

    Evens Cycles

It is important, when on these rides, that you give any local cyclists passing you in the other direction the thousand yard stare treatment. Even if they say 'hello' in a bright and cheery manner you must look straight ahead and acknowledging their presence will register a DNF on the timing list.

    Saddleup, we're raisin' a posse!

Some young turk over on STW is dissing the retro coolness of old bikes. Justice needs to be done. Why I bet his gears work and the geometry of his bike is correct. I bet his *spits* modern road bike weighs less than 11kg. too.

Pins and needles in my toes, still, any ideas?

Maybe have a look at Northwave or Specialised insoles. They have lumps under the forefoot to help spread the pressure on this area. I find they vastly improved the comfort of my Sidis.

James Martin being a c*ck about cyclists

Is this the same James Martin who trys to poison folk every weekend by getting celeb. chefs to warm some eggs in 20 seconds and call it an omelette?

Sram rear mechs. Not retro at all, but totally gorgeous.

I love X.0 kit too. 3 years on and i am just about to replace the original gear cables. We have all colours bar the pink in stock and now herself at home wants a pink gear set with pink RS8s and pink Hope brakes. Expensive tastes that one!

    Tow Bar mounted cycle carrier

Pendle now also sell a tilting version of the ever reliable wheel support rack. I've used the old wheel support for years and it is brilliant. Only let down by restricting access to the boot. New design gets around that - http://www.pendle-bike.co.uk/shopping/T ... e-Rack.php

    Watch this. W*nkers

Back in the 30s Lord Macaky described the bicycle as an 'aid to pedestrianism'. Pedestrians can go where they like, can jay-walk, stand between lanes of traffic, etc. so why not us? This sort of riding (I do not approve necessarily) inconveniences only motorists who do not own the road and are...

    weighing bikes

Both Ultimate and Park do decent scales that can be hung or clamped in a bike stand. Accurate to 100g. if memory serves. I have the Ultimate Alpine scale and often find it depressing as my bikes weight more than I think they should.

why are square taper B/B 's such a pain in the a£$E !!!

Square taper may have its limitations in terms of axle/taper damage but at least it is designed to go in the BB shell in which it finds itself. HT2 exists purely because it is too much hassle for frame manufacturers to up-size the BB shells. Hopefully the next 5 years will see us settle into a...

    Getting in shape. Advice needed!

I used to think this but tend to disagree nowadays. I used to ride SS for work everyday and on occasional weekends but found my legs only good for spinning or grinding out a gear. A switch to a geared bike Mon-Fri has left me much more able across the range.
