    Look what I got yesterday!

Favori My old uncle has a Favori hanging up in his house. He's almost given up cycling - shame it would be too small for me. This one is nice too. You got any history on it? Any idea how 'Extra EL' rides? Cheers!

JUBILAT 2 rost style from POLAND :)

Jubilat Rost Magnificent! I quite often see these strapped onto the back of caravans and motorhomes. Also, you quite often see larger gentlemen cruising around French campsites on them, whilst happily smoking cigarettes. They are, for some people - part of their institution!

    Frame identification....

Frame I think the rear stays are the give-away. I was thining Dawes or Claude-Butler too. If you can tell me which of your 'stable' has the same stays I think we'll get the stickers of the same brand. The 531 sticker is just a vinyl repro put on for a laugh. It will be going. Thanks guys.

    Frame identification....

Just helping a pal of mine build this up but not sure which frame it is. It was given to me as a "531 Holdsworth". Its got Italian-style internal brake routing but a British thread BB. The rear stays look unusual where they meet the seat-tube too. Its been powder-coated so its a bit...

    Help to choice cranks....

cranks The Zipps are too modern but so is everything else on that bike by the looks of it so why not? Probably better ditching the whole lot in favour of Record, circa the year of the frame. And some Cinelli bars without the 'ergo' bend. Horses for courses, just my idea of what an Italian...

Fork No worries, these are older than the bike though - probably for an early X-Light. Good luck.

A lovely steel road frame 57-58cm c-c top tube

I have a MasterX-Light and am looking for a replacement that rides a bit softer. Something like a Gios, Merckx, Ciocc or something. 57-58cm c-c top tube covers about everything. Down tube is irrelevant to me. Preferrable Italian and SLX or similar. Some chrome perhaps? Have up to £500...

    Mexico vs Master

fit Yep, I've experimented with that over the years, before and after a spinal op. Now I find the 'Italian fit' or more like 'French fit' much better even though it is more stretched out. I think the logic is that there is more weight on the hands/wrists and less vertical force on the spine...

    Mexico vs Master

Do you think a Colnago Mexico is more comfortable than a Master X-Light of present day? I am finding my MXL a bit harsh on longer rides for the old back. I can't remember what my Mexico was like years ago as it just got thrashed all the time but I seem to remember it being fairly comfortable...

    Hub spacing question

    hub You'll be fine with a re-dish and a road-specific quick-release. I wouldn't recommend a 4mm stretch on a Vitus frame.

    Hub spacing question

hubs Technically yes, but your chain might hit the dropout on the drive side  Only remove the spacers on the left if you can. Cheers.

Lighter wheels for a Claud Butler Dalesman - suggestions?

700c You might need deeper brakes. I think Mavic G40's are still available old stock in 27" but its maybe not worth it. If you go 700c it opens up a new range of rims and tyres. For that bike I would recommend Ambrosio Evolution rims. Last for years and the braking surface is thicker than...
