    1970s drivetrain alterations

I have a 1st generation Dura Ace crankset, running 54 42 rings. Block is 6 speed Dura Ace 13-18. Front and rear derailleur is 1st Generation Dura Ace, including original Crane DA mech. Given I am no longer 18, to make bike more useable for club runs and some long retro training miles, want to...

Jm I have message but cannot respond as I have no pms. Additionally I have no permission to look at pics... this is somewhat thwarting the utility of my using this site.

    Campagnolo Large flange hubs

Re: Curson. Thanks for replies. Only need hubs, so would only cut out hubs which would be a shame. Wolber clinchers a tad heavy for build. Also, apologies for posting publicly, have no pms.

    Roy Thame 1973/4

Re: TDC spot on, same as on Hilary Stone. Know little about them. Crown race has some wear. Chrome has pitting. Worth putting back in, or what would be a good alternative.

Do you recognise the headset? It’s an odd affair. Lockring normal, but top race has a drilled hole either side to remove. It’s as if it would need a special tool to tighten.

    Roy Thame 1973/4

Going to rebuild wheels using Tipo hubs. Chap in our club rebuilds wheels, so if I am going to have them rebuilt, will get the best rims I can. Any other early alternatives to MA2s? Any ideas on headset make? Bike now totally stripped by another friend in the club. Frame and fork match. He...

Any idea which brand the headset is? No manufacturers name. Only a lockring on top. Two drilled holes on bottom part to “lock” headset for removal. Also, fitted with AVA sprint rims ... what would be a quality clincher alternative for period rebuild? If headset were replaced, which model...

    Roy Thame 1973/4

Will strip down and clean and refresh parts. Will have it sand blasted, zinc oxide coated and then painted. I assume it should be enamel paint. Looks like lugs have been depicted in white. Anybody know a decent painter?

    Roy Thame 1973/4

Re: I will check later. I remember the bike when I was still at school and I am now nearly 50. I know its whereabouts for at least the last 35 years. Certainly not been used in over 30 years.

    Roy Thame 1973/4

Have just pulled a Roy Thame out of my fathers garage, having been stored in less than favourable conditions for over 30 years. 531 frame and straight precisa style fork. Dura Ace series 1 groupset, including the Crane rear derailleur. Campag tipo hubs, super record pedals and shifters. Totally...
