Death of the 5 arm 130 bcd triple?

I'm with you on the friction shifting on the front is the way to go hamster. My gevenalle inspired set up works so great I even switched the back to friction. No more faffing about.

Why do we want rare, complicated stuff?! Amp forks kupput

Ya, that sucks. This is one reason why I tend to target fully rigid vintage bikes. The other is that early suspension was terrible.

New selle italia turbo racer • ordered today • time travel

Oh, man. I've been trying to sell my black one for a couple of years. My ass prefers Vetta saddles. Too bad they went out of business.

Show us your 700C ATB / MTB / Hybrid

Miyata called theirs Triplecross/alumicross to reflect the nearness to cyclocross. Personally I think my triplecross would have been too heavy to race.

Love that colourway. I wouldn't change the stem - those dirt drop stem are perfect period gravel spec. Wonder how it would look with purple gravel kings....

Badging up an unknown frame, etiquette

I don't think its ok to attribute it to any brand if you aren't 100% certain. My friend refurbished bikes and created his own branding and got custom decals for his finished product. I think that's a great way to go.

    The MS Racing/alpinestars story.

Interesting brochure. The paint scheme on the Pro Comp XT is completely different than the neon mix on my example. The fork is different as well. I wonder if that was done using early preproduction models.

    Lotus racer - worth restoring?

This is what I was thinking as well - I've heard about the US designed / Asia manufactured Lotus bikes. They are well regarded - particularly the high end models. One of those would be worth restoring if not rotted past saving.

What are your retro bike plans for 2024.

For me its a combination of lack of space and too many bikes. I feel that my bikes should be ridden and I'm not riding my vintage mountain bikes anymore.

    Practical steel bike

BRC built some interesting mountain bikes before they went bankrupt. When I was looking for a parts bike a few years back I was tempted to pick up one will full XT and a very steeply sloping top tube. Can't remember the model number.

What are your retro bike plans for 2024.

Hey Roy. I don't think so unless you are interested in a scabby 89 Ritchey Ultra, MS Racing Pro Comp, stripped MB-2, or fugly Zaskar. Actually, I don't know if I can let go of the Zaskar.

Late 40s / Early 50s René Herse tip find

Yes, I am very aware of the price range difference, I was using it as more as a philosophical comparison. It would definitely be better if you can use the original crankset. I suppose the key factor is whether this bike will be a rider or not.

    Practical steel bike

That was deliberate - I'm Canadian and live near the Norco head office so I knew that Fiori and Nishiki were the upmarket brands for Norco bikes. Tange was definitely the more common tube brand in Norcos, BRC's, etc. BITD. I do have an Ishiwata EX Kuwahara frame that I built into a bike for my...

    Practical steel bike

Huh, I had an earlier version of the Monterey SL and am surprised they would spec Ishiwata 3xbutted for a bike at that level of the price range. I'd expect that in a Nishiki or a Fiori.

Late 40s / Early 50s René Herse tip find

I can't criticize him - i'm running velo orange 50.4 BCD cranks on my steel gravel bike and their drillium cranks on my ellis briggs now.
