Klein Quantum Pro (new pictures 9th august 2011)

oooh another Pearl Yellow Quantum Pro. I rarely see other bikes the same colour as mine, you have more classy parts than mine though... I just started the first Klein owners club on facebook! Hopefully it'll be a useful place to get info, parts tools and see other Kleins!

Raleigh Milk Race special single speed

FG=Fun I'm not going to chastise you for the stickers, or the "conversion" But I have been riding Fixed Gear here in Tokyo for about 4 years and have learnt a thing or two. 1. FG no brakes is ok. Most of my friends ride that way. I don't promote it, but I do condone it. 2. Get foot...

    Klein headset change?

Glad to hear it worked out for you, I was looking at that specialized stem also. I like their solution of allowing multiple angles with the angled shims. But in the end I knew I just wanted my stem to be 1cm shorter so went for the 3T. I read a lot that people have been put off by the odd...

    Klein headset change?

Nice work there. Is the fit much nicer now? Before I did mine I couldn't find any information on doing the change, and finding that seatpost shim that is nearly a perfect fit was lucky too. It seems to be a fairly standard shim size so should be easy for people to get. How do you find...

rBOTM May - VOTE IS OPEN !!!

Touche, the Klein also isn't threadless as in the modern interpretation. It has a 1 1/16th inch steerer and a special collet system developed by klein but they stopped making about 13 years ago. But I understand the doesn't fit the retro image sentiment which is why I knew it wouldn't win here.

No, sorry, it's Tamachi. I don't like Roppongi. Shibuya is much better!

rBOTM May - VOTE IS OPEN !!!

Yeah!!! I made it to third place!!! I think that Raleigh was my favourite of the other bikes, so I'm happy to share the dizzying heights of the podium with it!!!

If you like that, you might like the view from my old apartment. And YES, when I ride around Tokyo at night, I do listen to the Tron soundtrack! I'm going to have to go out and take more photos once the rainy season finishes!

rBOTM May - VOTE IS OPEN !!!

Surprised! I had some votes! I honestly didn't think I'd get any as mine doesn't really fit the retro image especially with the Rev X as they don't get much love from people usually. The Quantum Pro looks like a modern race bike and rides like a modern bike too. But it truly is fabulous...

1996 Klein Quantum Pro; changing from an MC2 stem project.

Update. I decided to see if I could do something about the 0.2mm shim difference as the spacers had a slight bit of wiggle room. I cut an aluminum can to make an extra single layer shim. It is now a perfect fit. It is very tight and I think the double layer shim will hold solid.

    Klein headset change?

Mine loosened off really quickly and then stiffened up again. Just need to power through it. I didn't mention it because I thought maybe only mine does it!

    Klein headset change?

Mc3 uses Allen keys, just like the modern threadless stems. Only mc2 requires a special tool. Yours should only need to take off, cut a shim to size and put on a new stem. Take off the stem and post a photo to confirm.

    Klein headset change?

It's very secure with the shim. Klein used to sell a shim for the task, almost identical in thickness to the seatpost shim I used. I have tried twisting my bars and it is not coming off. Also, the fork is glued into the headset bearings. So does not come off easily.

    Klein headset change?

You might be interested in my post I made on saturday explaining how to do the very same thing you want to do in the Road forum. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149742 By the way, how tall are you? I'm 178cm or 5' 10" on the Queen's scale and mine is a 57cm but I usually...

Yeah, the right side is an in-line gear indicator. The left side is a barrel adjuster for fine tuning the front derailer. Here are some nice photos I took to celebrate a job well done after today's post rapture ride this morning.

1996 Klein Quantum Pro; changing from an MC2 stem project.

Step 1 So the tool arrived in the post! Thanks Mark from New York for lending it to me! Step 1, Remove the MC2 stem. This was pretty easy, put tool on and turn anti-clockwise. The silver top part spins, but is connected to the stem itself. When the stem is taken off, the...
