1996 Kona Cinder Cone (Single speed conversion)

I gave up on the riser bar idea and decided to just get used to the flat bar instead. Unfortunately, the chain tensioner was causing problems (jumping off under load) as it wasn't allowing enough chain to wrap around the rear cog. So I bought a DMR STS tensioner to replace it. It doesn't...

singlespeed conversion virgin, noob questions !

Yes, the 10 quid one. I'm using my 32 tooth middle ring, so I bought the 16t cog to get the 2:1 ratio that most people seem to recommend

It is a bit ugly, but it does the job! I bought the cog/spacer kit from Superstar components and it seems fine

singlespeed conversion virgin, noob questions !

The DMR STS tensioner doesn't look as nice as the Superstar one, so I didn't really want to swap mine either. But the DMR works and the Superstar didn't (for me anyway)

It's the tensioner. I had the same problem with mine. I swapped it for a DMR one that pushes the chain up rather than down and now it's perfect :D

singlespeed conversion virgin, noob questions !

I've decided to return the sprung chain tensioner I bought as it's leaving the chain too slack and causing a loud clunk! (loads of people on the net have found the same problem with this type of tensioner) I've just ordered this to replace it http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/produc ... x?&id=6890

Magura hydaulic rim brakes - To buy or not to buy?

Thanks. I've actually just ordered a DMR tensioner (the fixed type that pushes up). I'm going to send this piece of **** back!

Magura hydaulic rim brakes - To buy or not to buy?

There's a clunk/crack when I put a lot of force on the pedals. Do you think it's because the chain is too slack (it's as tight as I can get it without getting hold of a half link) :?

1996 Kona Cinder Cone (Single speed conversion)

So I tried to fit a riser bar today as I have read it is possible to prise the stem open enough to fit one in. This is as far as I got (that's a 10mm allen key) before I realised it wasn't going to happen. I think the accounts of people doing this have steel stems, not alloy like mine...

Magura hydaulic rim brakes - To buy or not to buy?

Thanks for your input guys. I haven't seen them yet, but I reckon I'll probably buy them based on what you've all said (even if I don't end up putting them on this bike) :D

Magura hydaulic rim brakes - To buy or not to buy?

I very recently bought this Cinder Cone and converted it to single speed. I thought I'd pretty much got it completed, but my neighbour has offered me some magura hydraulic rim brakes (the yellow ones) for 30 quid! What does anyone think? Worth it? :?
