    Shimano 105 FH-1056

Evening, My back wheel is running on a Shimano 105 FH-1056 hub which I believe is an 8 speed hub? The guy who owned it before me put a 7 speed on there. My question is (I am after riding a lot of hills) can I put a 10 speed cassette on there without changing anything, maybe need spacers? Or am...

Marin East Peak rear shock removal

Cheers managed to get it off in the end with a bigger hammer and a lot of elbow grease. Now it is out has anybody got any recommendation on what to replace the goosed shock with or are the ones fitted worth getting fixed?

Marin East Peak rear shock removal

Re: Had another go at it this morning, have managed to move the bolt about 2mm but still won't come out, it does seem to be the alloy collars it is stuck to. Anyone know if you can just buy a new bolt and the two alloy collars then I can just cut the bolt off and replace it? Edit: A bigger...

Marin East Peak rear shock removal

It's coil shock and is totally loose, swing arm is off the bike it's just not wanting to release the shock. I had another go tightening the nuts on either side and knocking it through from the opposite side and have managed to move it about 2mm and the shock doesn't turn when I loosen the nuts...

Marin East Peak rear shock removal

Hi guys, I am in the process of stripping a Marin East Peak down to rebuild it, have got to the swing arm and for the life of me can't get the shock off the swing arm, i'm reading you simply undo one side and tap the bold back through but this bolt doesn't want to move at all, have squirted WD40...

    Marin East Peak

Re: No cracks in the swing arm i'm afraid, may just stick with the avids already on there as they seem to stop on a penny anyway. Got it into work the other day and spur of the moment thing decided to sand the frame down on my lunch break so currently working that back up through the sandpaper...

    Marin East Peak

Ye I think the problem maybe with the BB as it's measuring ~54mm fem centre of tube to middle ring, not a big problem as was planning to change it when I went to a single ring on the front to get correct chain line anyway. Forcefully removed the rear suspension last night, the lugs attaching it...

    Marin East Peak

Evening, Yesterday I put a post in the wanted section for a cheap rolling project, I was after a cheap Kona or Marin and oddly as I went back to the main board a Marin East Peak appeared in the ebay ads with only 15 minutes to go and at only £36 so I put a cheeky little last minute bid in and...

    Cheap rolling project...

Cheers for that, oddly just as I had finished writing this in the ebay adverts that pop up on the forum a Marin F.R.S appeared with 15 mins to go at only £36 so put a cheeky last minute bid in and I am picking it up tomorrow morning :)

    Cheap rolling project...

Hi guys posted this in main MTB section but realise my bike choices maybe better placed here. Basically i'm mainly a trail runner and got a road bike to supplement my training for that but after seeing some of the guys on bikes on the trails fancy giving it a go so after a cheap bike to see if...

    Cheap rolling project...

Still looking, really like the look of the full suspension Marins or one of the cheaper Kona frames which came with front suspension, fire mountain? Cheers

    Chain ring spacers?

Great help cheers, had a read through the sheldon brown article and inner chain ring seems to be in right place (41mm +/- 1mm). Think it much just be the oversized frame that make the inner chain ring appear so close to the frame.

    Chain ring spacers?

You could be on to something here, another noob question but what should the space be between the inner chain ring and the chain stay? Mine is currently about 2-3mm.

    Chain ring spacers?

Cool, will give the spacers a miss then. Will pop it into my LBS this weekend and see what he says as removing the bottom bracket maybe beyond my (as you can probably tell) limited bike experience. Cheers

    Chain ring spacers?

Just been on the phone to my mate and he thinks it could be the chain being too wide? Looking at it-it has an 8 speed chain on a 7 speed cassette would the 8 speed chain be sufficiently wider to cause it to rub?
