Rolling and in need of adjustment, just like the bike. This is where I thank the forum members for all the help and modestly submit pictures for consideration. Stricken lions have been known to befriend people because they knew - somehow - that doing so would result in the removal of a...

Gentlemen ! Am overwhelmed by your kindness and knowledge. Links to superb information; thank you. Fantastic. The GB stem's potential weakness has been pointed out. It'd ruin my day if I broke that pedaling up Ralph Allen's Drive ! If an addition; the brake adjuster has been done well...

I had my frame and forks powder coated. II know that this isn't everybody's choice of finish but it was done cheaply, locally and before Christmas so I'm happy enough. The coat's not too thick so the detailing on the lugs is still clearly visible. Although the lugs aren't as...

Hi, Non indexed bar end shifters will be used eventually and the gear cable inners are bare from the lever points on the frame to the derailleurs. Hope this helps and thanks for your kind offer. yours, Jolly

Hi Old Ned and thanks for your offer. There's a theme running with most of my posts and that is Ignorant Newbie feels like a twit asking about abbreviations and bike technology in general... So; not wishing to disappoint, what does STI mean ? I need enough outer for front and rear...

Thanks for that. So powder coating is not liked by some because its Incorrect for the year, heavy and too thick to reveal details in the lugs. Paint, however, is more appropriate, revealing and delicate. So, I suppose it matters if the bike's meant to be a rider's machine, or faithfully...

Nowhere, really. I'd just like to find out what the best thing to do would be from people who know more than I do. Yours, Jolly

I haven't really decided what I want. I'm just a Johnny Come Lately into this world trying to work out what's best. I don't want to trash a valuable and rare machine but neither do I want to polish a turd. I like the idea of painting the frame myself but fear that an amateur's attempt would...

Hi, The frame's very light and the tubes are seamless so it's at least quite good, I'd guess. The lugs are plain. What's the issue with powder coating in your view ? I need to do something as the frame's rusty in places. J.

Hi again, Your post raises more tantalizing questions. If the decals are later than the frame; how do I know if they are appropriate at all ? Does the frame number definitely point to it being a 531 tubeset and how can I tell if the tubes are single or double butted without the use of a...

Many thanks everyone... ...for all the info. and encouragement. And yes there was a plastic cable guide fixed under the bottom bracket. I am very interested in all bicycle ephemera and mining this fascinating forum for any info. on my particular machine and any parts fitted to it. I'm...

Wheel trueing I took my front wheel into a local bikeshop as they told me it could be trued for a Tenner or so. Anyway i was called later that day and told it was beyond repair as it was out axially by 1/4 inch and it wasn't clear whether the problem was with the wheel or the hub. Didn't...

Hi, Thanks for the steer. Important to get terminology right as it saves time ! I tried pointing the brake blocks up towards the rim but they'd have to be at nearly a 45 deg. angle so I'm not sure they'll work as well as they should. I went to the Mud Dock bike jumble in Bristol on...

Hi, I thought the stem was older but I'll be keeping it as it looks so nice. I imagine the bike will end up a blend of old and older and I'm afraid to admit I have already fitted a 3 ring crank sprocket to help me drag my wheezing body up all the hills in Bath ! I aim to get all the bits...
